Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:

  • Plans and directs the Company’s Center Store merchandising program, including determining strategic direction for Product, Pricing, Promotion and Placement
  • Provides clear standards of performance for Category Management team as well as merchandising standards for retail Operations.
  • Acts as an ambassador for our Private Brands program, insuring support of Private Brands throughout supply chain and all merchandising functions, as well as driving item development in coordination with Private Brands Department.
  • Oversees Category Manager plans and development of product assortments, including determining supply chain methods, to support the Company’s initiatives and satisfy customer needs.
  • Oversees Category Manager negotiations of vendor agreements, including terms of sale, allowances, and joint business plans.
  • Oversees Category Manager cost negotiations and assists in development of strategic pricing and promotional activity in coordination with the Pricing Department
  • Approves planogram placement and store schematic/layout in coordination with Space Planning and Store Development
  • Oversees Category Manager promotional forecasting and management of product life cycle with Purchasing Department
  • Develops and maintains financial forecasts for assigned area, including coordination of all vendor funding and incentives.
  • Coordinates the development of promotional plans between merchandising departments and Marketing/Advertising Team, including Ad Development, Store Events and Direct Marketing plans.
  • Monitors and guides the submission of item/price input to ad production from the various departments as per the promotional plans; addresses deviation to plan or missing elements.
  • Develops Center Store merchandising plan in coordination with the Lead Center Store Merchandiser to ensure fulfillment of contractual obligations as well as meet customer demand based on weekly and ongoing promotions.
  • Coordinates effective communication of promotional plans as well as supporting merchandising execution plans to Operations Team via Sales Program, Sales Memorandum, and various other communication vehicles.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position directly supervises category managers and hourly merchandising clerks. The Director carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Weis Markets policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, directing, rewarding, disciplining associates, appraising associate performance, and resolving complaints.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, the associate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:


Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Business or Marketing, experience in both operations and category management, plus two (2) years’ experience managing direct reports; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
