Job Description:


SUMMARY:

The primary responsibility of the Massage Therapist is to provide guests with professional massage and body treatments. This role requires in-depth knowledge of various massage techniques and an understanding of body treatments, along with a willingness to learn and adapt to the specific offerings of our spa. Strong communication skills are essential for understanding and addressing the wellness needs of our guests effectively. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

•    Interacts with courtesy and professionalism with guest and Team Members. 

•    Guide clients through service offerings and determine which massages would benefit them most.

•    Take a detailed client history and note any health conditions.

•    Evaluate clients for painful or stressed areas of the body and work on them as desired by the client.

•    Advise clients on stretching, strengthening or relaxation methods

•    Suggest future massage appointments and regime to clients. 

•    Educates guests about products used and recommends products for home.

•    Listen to clients during appointments and adjust technique as they desire

•    May assists with other spa services as allowed by current qualifications.

•    Maintains a clean, quiet, comfortable and organized treatment room and environment.

•    Complies with all applicable regulations, internal controls, policies and procedures. 

•    Reports all exceptions/variations/deviations upon awareness.

•    Understands and uses universal precautions and sanitary procedures.

•    Maintains professional relationships with spa clientele.

•    Routinely inspects work areas for cleaning needs, defective materials, and potential safety hazards. 

•    Notifies appropriate person(s) for proper resolution.

•    Maintains adequate inventory of linens, massage oils, lotions, creams, gels used in massage treatment; places orders and re-stocks supplies as necessary.

•    Begins and ends all treatments on time, adhering to appointments and scheduling.

•    Maintains a keen interest in their own physical well-being and appearance, reflecting the mood and image of the spa.

•    Performs other duties as may be required including assisting in the reception area and assisting with the upkeep of the locker rooms, fitness center, stockroom and salon. 

•    Cross-trains, performs and assists with all duties in the department during down times, staff shortages, and/or emergencies. May be assigned to other support, safety and security duties within Hospitality Division and/or the Resort during emergencies.

•    Maintains a consistent, regular attendance record.

•    Performs any reasonable request made by management.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  
•    Must pass department skills assessment and practicum. 
•    Prior experience working in a spa preferred.
•    Strong interpersonal communication skills.
•    Time management abilities.
•    Demonstrated sales and customer service skills.
    
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
•    Successfully complete 500 hours of massage therapy course.
•    Hold current massage therapy certification from an accredited institution. 

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Certification requirements must be maintained during length of employment.  
•    Knowledge in individual and couples massage and various techniques, and body treatments.
•    Must have a well-rounded knowledge of human anatomy 
•    Able to educate guest on benefits of massage therapy. 
•    Possess empathetic qualities and demonstrates active listening skills to understand and address client needs. 
•    Superior guest service skills.
•    Maintain guest confidentiality. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability welcome, articulate benefits and applications of services and products. 
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence and memos.  
Write basic instructions and correspondence.
Present information in one-on-one situations to guests and other team members.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILTY:  
Ability to follow simple written or verbal instructions and solve basic problems with a limited number of variables in routine situations.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to meet the physical demands necessary to perform job functions. 
•    Communication: Regular need to talk and hear.
•    Mobility: Standing for hours at a time, walking, and hand use for manipulating objects and tools.
•    Flexibility: Frequent reaching with hands and arms; repetitive motions, occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
•    Lifting: Lifting/moving of up to twenty-five pounds regularly and fifty pounds occasionally.
•    Vision: Requires close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a Team Member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  


The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.  When on the casino floor, the Team Member will be exposed to a smoke-filled environment.
