Lunar Permanence: This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building the sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the Lunar Surface.

  

As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will work as a Systems Engineer on the Vehicle Systems Engineering team for the lunar lander system focused on System Safety. You will be responsible for producing safety analysis, verifying safety and fault tolerance requirements, documenting hazard controls and mitigations in the vehicle design, supporting integration, verification, and validation. You will identify areas of opportunity for design improvements, minimize risk to people and property, and increase the probability of mission success. Your passion, expertise, and skills will impact the design and integration of the spacecraft and mission success. You should expect that this foundational part of our vision will require your excellent communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform safety analysis including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Hazard Reports, Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA), Common Cause Assessments, and Reliability Analysis
  • Define and develop the strategies and approaches for creating safety artifacts across the program
  • Perform verification and validation of safety requirements and hazard controls
  • Provide review, guidance, and expertise of safety analysis products across the program
  • Ensure traceability between safety requirements, verification events, and documented hazard controls and mitigations
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers on identifying and analyzing system safety hazards and minimizing risk
  • Collaborate across Lunar Systems Engineers to develop best practices and find opportunities for common processes across projects

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years systems engineering experience in the aerospace industry
  • 4+ years engineering experience with performing safety analyses on space systems including one of the following: Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Hazard Reports, Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA), reliability analysis, and mitigation plans
  • Ability to define safety processes and coordinate safety analysis across stakeholders and experts from varying engineering fields to produce safety and reliability products
  • Strong Safety and Mission Assurance fundamentals
  • Experience with performing verification of safety requirements and hazard controls
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate technical information effectively
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing compliance assessment of system safety processes and products against external standards including Range Safety, NASA, FAA, MIL-STD-882, or ARP-4761
  • Experience with design, development, and certification of spaceflight systems, avionics system architectures and designs, and radiation environments/effects
  • Experience with lunar, deep space, or planetary missions


 

Compensation Range for:

CA applicants is $120,060.00-$168,084.00;CO applicants is $110,055.00-$154,077.00;WA applicants is $120,060.00-$168,084.00
