Not RequiredWe are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Packaging Engineer in Rockford, Illinois. This role is responsible for mechanical engineering focused on the packaging of electrical and electronic products, including the development of energy-efficient, lightweight, and cost-effective components alongside optimized placement within various electrical systems. It requires a combination of experience in mechanical design, analysis, and testing for electronic systems, including electronic packaging, printed wiring boards (PWBs), circuit card assemblies (CCAs), and mechanical enclosures. Designs are developed and finalized through formal design reviews and the release of associated engineering drawings. The work supports both commercial and military applications.
What You Will Do
Apply mechanical design principles to evaluate and resolve product and process issues across the full product lifecycle—including design, testing, and production—while adhering to standard work practices.
Lead targeted technical assignments during investigations, design activities, or testing that require analysis, evaluation, and application of engineering principles, theories, and methods.
Develop energy-efficient, lightweight, and cost-effective electronic components.
Collaborate closely with thermal and stress analysis engineering teams.
Support the investigation, development, and testing of products with defined operational, spatial, and functional requirements; design new solutions or select existing designs that meet specifications.
Create, review, and update technical content for drawings, engineering specifications, reports, and other documentation throughout the engineering process.
Evaluate requests related to legacy drawings, providing clarifications or implementing engineering changes to support ongoing product manufacturing.
Participate in troubleshooting and resolution of issues on the manufacturing floor.
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles and their application to design and analysis activities.
Qualifications We Prefer
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
Experience in mechanical design or analysis of electronic systems, including electronic packaging, Printed Wiring Boards (PWBs), Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs), and/or mechanical enclosures.
Ability to read wiring schematics.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Experience modeling and/or interpreting designs in NX/Unigraphics.
Knowledge of environmental, reliability, and safety requirements.
Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement practices and structured root cause analysis methods.
Ability to work effectively both independently and within an integrated, cross-functional product development team.
Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate within a cross-functional support team environment.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
