Yahoo Sports is looking for an experienced Director of Business Development to lead our strategic partnership development and ongoing relationship management across key current and prospective content, utility, and gaming partners.  This role will report directly to the Head of Business Development and will integrate deeply with the Yahoo Sports leadership team to understand, define, and execute on business goals. We are seeking a candidate who has depth of experience with content rights licensing and negotiations, a granular understanding of the Sports digital media landscape (including free and paid fantasy gaming and the nuances of the major US Sports leagues), strong command over digital revenue drivers, and an understanding of the Real Money Gaming / Sports Betting category.

About the Role:

  • Maintain a strong pulse on the Sports media and gaming landscape, monitoring industry trends and competitive positioning to explore a variety of potential partnership opportunities

  • Identify, seek and execute large scale, revenue-generating partnerships that align to the Yahoo Sports & Fantasy content and product strategies

  • Lead key negotiations with current and prospective partners for Yahoo Sports and Fantasy including regular contract renewals and amendments 

  • Strengthen existing relationships with key North American sports leagues partners, creatively identifying mutually beneficial opportunities for growth as media rights, sponsorship opportunities, predictive gaming, and digital commerce rapidly evolve

  • Create accurate performance forecasts and secure buy in across key internal stakeholders for all prospective deal approvals; work throughout deal term to deliver on projections and report regularly on status and performance 

  • Collaborate closely with GM, strategy, product, marketing, sales, and legal counterparts to determine, map, and execute on all partnership requirements

  • Further our off-platform distribution strategy and manage all relationships with platforms from a business perspective, enabling our content and social teams to drive new growth and success across all emerging channels (with an emphasis on modern media formats, notably video, audio, FAST)

  • Expected to roll-up sleeves and gain in-depth knowledge of how our products work 

  • Assist with M&A activity as needed

About You:

  • BS / BA degree (MBA Preferred)

  • 10 years of experience with successful large-scale deal creation and strategic execution 

  • Deep familiarity with contractual terms and an ability to take ownership over complex deal structures and negotiations, navigating them with creative and innovative problem solving skills

  • Strong command over revenue / cost economics, sound business judgment, and clear decision-making skills

  • Passion for Sports media / gaming, consistently positive attitude, and a strong desire to win alongside teammates

  • Excellent communication, sales, presentation, and (baseline) modeling skills

  • Comfortable navigating large, matrixed organizations (both internally and externally) with an ability to build consensus across functional groups (product, editorial, etc)

  • Ability to translate and clearly communicate (both oral and written) business requirements and technical information to individuals with varied levels of expertise

The compensation for this position ranges from $140,890.00 - $306,705.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
