We are looking for an experienced Head of Tax Korea. The role  is to partner with and understand the business, execute and ensure tax compliancy with a strategical and tactical focus while pro-actively supporting ASML and its business partners. 

The role requires working with colleagues in various countries  and different expertise areas within Tax & Customs and outside the Tax & Customs function.

Job Description

As Head of Tax Korea you will be responsible for the Korean tax affairs and will be managing a team of tax experts and you will coordinate with specialist on specialist tax matters. You will be reporting to the Head of Tax APAC. In addition to the Korean tax affairs, you will also be responsible for the tax affairs of Japan, Singapore and Malaysia.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Management of a team, including inspiring leadership and people development;
  • Work together with the Korean Finance lead and other finance functions (reporting, accounting, treasury), legal and other colleagues to work in an integrated way delivering value to ASML where it matters most.
  • Contribute directly in managing the Tax & Customs aspects of supporting our customers in Korea.
  • Managing all relevant stakeholders. From an external perspective with tax authorities and other regulators. Internally, in supporting our business in managing risks, being in control and at the same time remain efficient in its administrative procedures and way of working.
  • Ensuring Tax Compliance & Control, by  implementation and monitoring of processes and controls for appropriate tax risk management and reporting purposes. Furthermore through the timely and accurate fulfillment of tax compliance obligations in line with applicable tax laws and regulations and via an audit readiness program.
  • Participate in the development of the APAC tax strategy in line with the Global Tax Strategy of ASML and contribute to a proper tax infrastructure in order to manage and reduce tax exposures and identify opportunities. Ensure the formulation and implementation of a regional/local tax strategy, in line with the global tax strategy and aligned with the local business.
  • Ensure the management of various regional tax projects and numerous outside consultants to maximize the benefits of the use of outside consultant and ensure your projects are completed timely, within scope, within budget and fulfill the requirements of the project.
  • Contribute to the design, integration and maintaining of an effective and efficient operating model, in compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations in Taiwan, but also of the other countries where ASML has business interests/ taxable presence.
  • Manage tax audits and tax exposure and provide an efficient tax planning based on future developments.
  • Participate to a proper knowledge database as a corporate memory and communication tool and establish a network of outside counsel and specialists.
  • Participate in cross-sector projects as APAC representative of the T&C team.

Education

You have an Academic background in either Accounting, (Tax) Law, Economics, or Business Administration, combined with academic or post-academic Tax Law courses. When skilled in the Accounting area, certified public tax accountant or CPA would be preferred.

Experience

You have a minimum of 15 years’ experience, with a combination of Big-4 Firm and in-house Head of Tax. You have strong experience in working in a multi-disciplinary environment and in a multi-cultural team. You have a good cultural awareness and understanding of Asian and Western cultures. Ideally, you have worked and lived abroad.

Language skills

Fluent in English and Korean, both orally and in writing.

Location of the position

  • Hwasung, Korea. You are expected to be in the office 3-4 days per week and company policy allows you to work from home 1-2 days per week. ASML is considering to open a satellite office in Gang-Nam.  
  • Travel 1x per year to the Dutch based HQ is expected.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
