OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT/SECTION

MUFG's Leveraged Finance group provides product expertise in the origination, structuring and execution of LBOs for private equity sponsors.  We also originate and execute leveraged transactions for corporate clients in partnership with regional corporate relationship managers.

The Leveraged Finance group also works with relevant coverage and product functions within the bank to assist in executing our broader Financial Institutions strategy to maximise cross-sell amongst sponsor clients and their portfolio companies.

Leveraged Finance works collaboratively with MUFG’s Global Sponsor Coverage teams and the Leveraged Capital Markets team to deliver financing solutions and to maximise revenue opportunities in EMEA.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE 

  • Generate deal flow in sponsor-driven leveraged finance transactions consistent with our targeted sponsor framework, target size range and specific geographic focus.
  • Act as deal captain to successfully structure and execute leveraged finance transactions, defined as underwritten LBO financings, direct lending transaction and non-investment grade corporate financings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive profitable dealflow from the PE community in EMEA from across our leveraged finance product range, specifically lead underwrite transactions and direct lending transactions.
  • Lead deal execution to ensure the highest quality of transaction delivery, risk management and client satisfaction.
  • Negotiate terms and documentation for leveraged finance transactions in collaboration with LF Transaction Execution function and, where relevant, Leveraged Capital Markets.
  • Retain ongoing fiduciary responsibility for risk management of onboarded assets, in partnership with LF Portfolio Management team, and drive incremental revenue and cross selling opportunities for MUFG.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, notably credit, sponsor coverage, leveraged capital markets, FI coverage, corporate coverage, compliance and audit to promote the strategic mission of Leveraged Finance and to ensure the continued good standing of the team within the bank.
  • Support LF team leadership to manage and develop more junior team members.
  • Provide strategic support to LF team leadership as required.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • At least ten years’ experience of transacting European sponsor-backed leveraged finance transactions in lead roles.
  • Experience of working within a banking environment and, preferably, a debt fund environment.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Functional / Technical Competencies:

  • Demonstrable practical experience of leading leveraged finance transactions in European market.
  • Expertise in sub-investment grade credit analysis, cash flow modelling and documentary negotiation.
  • Can demonstrate strong existing relationships with capital markets and equity investment professionals within the private equity industry.
  • Excellent presentation and negotiation skills.

Education / Qualifications:

  • Degree level with relevant post degree qualification preferred (e.g. CFA, ACA, MBA)
