GENERAL FUNCTION

Designs, develops, and maintains back‑office applications and integrations built on IBM FileNet and Java technologies as a member of an agile squad. As part of the squad, this role participates in all agile ceremonies and contributes across the entire software development lifecycle. This includes technical design through deployment, monitoring, and support. This role follows engineering best practices, adheres to team standards, and participates in communities of practice to continuously improve engineering discipline and documentation.

Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and concerns, escalating issues, and following all policies and procedures. Expected to act with integrity, ensure positive customer and colleague experiences, and operate within the Bank’s risk appetite by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, enhance, and maintain Java‑based applications and services that integrate with IBM FileNet P8, Content Engine (CE), Process Engine (PE), and related ECM systems
  • Build and maintain scalable backend microservices using Java & Spring Boot. Design, develop, and optimize REST APIs and core backend logic
  • Develop content ingestion, retrieval, workflow, and document management solutions within FileNet
  • Build and maintain RESTful and Java API integrations with FileNet CE/PE and other back‑office systems
  • Provide technical leadership on FileNet design patterns, metadata modeling, classes, security, and object store configuration
  • Develop high‑quality, maintainable Java code following coding standards and established metrics
  • Apply test‑driven development, automated testing, and peer review practices
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and analysts to define system architecture and design solutions that align with ECM best practices
  • Troubleshoot FileNet platform issues, including workflow errors, performance concerns, and integration failures
  • Work with operations teams to ensure stable FileNet environments, including upgrades, patching, vulnerability remediation and monitoring
  • Participate in communities of practice and assist with education, standardization, and knowledge sharing across squads
  • Drive operational excellence by automating manual processes and improving system reliability
  • Remain current on ECM, FileNet, and Java technology trends
  • Assist with production support, root‑cause analysis, and end‑user problem resolution
  • Maintain required documentation and controls for audit and compliance activities
  • Strong core Java and J2EE experience
  • Proficiency in database management and SQL for backend interaction
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of professional experience developing with Java
  • 2+ years working with IBM FileNet P8, Content Engine, Process Engine, workflows, and document classes (experience may be combined within total years of development work)
  • Strong understanding of ECM concepts: metadata modeling, security, storage policies, retention, and lifecycle management
  • Experience with Java integration patterns, including REST APIs, SOAP services, and message‑based systems
  • Familiarity with Git, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation
  • Solid foundation in object‑oriented programming and familiarity with functional programming concepts
  • Experience with relational databases (SQL) and structured content retrieval
  • Understanding of secure coding practices and enterprise authentication/authorization
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with FileNet BAW is a plus
  • Experience with workflow modernization or migration from legacy FileNet components is a plus
