Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences 

The newly established Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences (HMBS) will be an interdisciplinary powerhouse of innovation and collaboration to lead integrated solutions to the needs of the communities we serve locally and globally. UQ offers one of the widest ranges of health and behavioural sciences programs of any Australian university, and the ambition for this new Faculty will be to will be to leverage its unified suite of esteemed schools, institutes and centres to unlock opportunities within UQ and with external partners.

About This Opportunity 

Providing essential support in research and researcher development, the Manager, Strategic Research Initiatives role strategically aligns targeted research initiatives to secure major funding opportunities. This position offers high-quality advice and project management support to leaders during the preparation of significant funding applications, while fostering effective partnerships with the central Research Office, the research community, and external partners engaging with the University.

Operating under the direction of the Associate Dean (Research) and the Associate Director of the Faculty Research Office, the role supervises others in delivering strategic research support and collaborates with researchers and research support staff across all campuses and sites.

Key responsibilities will include: (Maximum 3-4 points)

  • Leverage extensive networks to collaborate with the Associate Dean (Research) in assembling teams for major funding opportunities, providing strategic advice and project management for applications. 

  • Lead high-priority funding applications by offering grant craft support, including feedback, writing, editing, and external reviews, ensuring optimal research administration. 

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of research performance and growth areas, building relationships to advise on strategic research support for major funding. 

  • Develop initiatives that help researchers remain competitive in securing funding from national and international agencies. 

  • Supervise and support others in providing strategic research support, establishing strong networks across the faculty and central Research Office to achieve strategic priorities.

About You

  • An in-depth understanding of research management and development and the national and international research funding environment.   

  • Knowledge of University operations and the ability to rapidly acquire an understanding of UQ policies and procedures in relation to research management.  

  • Demonstrated skills to operate in an environment that requires problem solving, decision making and prioritisation to link researchers with funding opportunities.  

  • Proven ability to influence and engage stakeholders to achieve outcomes.  

  • A high level of proficiency in leveraging information systems and business applications to support initiatives.  

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check and mandatory immunisations.
