Emergency Care Instructor – Part Time

Assist with the planning, coordination and implementation of training programs focused on emergency care, including Basic Cardiac Life Support and Corporate Life Support. Teach classes at various campuses throughout our organization, and evaluate the performance of each student to identify opportunities for improvement. Inspect and repair equipment used for the classes. Maintain files related to the programs, and prepare statistical and other reports for supervisory personnel.

Essential Job Duties

  • Conducts in-service training in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Corporate Life Support (First Aid and BCLS).
  • Assists in the planning and design of training programs in conjunction with guidelines and regulations of the Hospital and appropriate certification agencies. Establishes criteria to measure student and faculty performance in a fair and objective manner. Consults with appropriate personnel to resolve questions on course content, methods, and materials, etc.
  • Evaluates students’ performance in practical examinations as necessary. Notifies appropriate persons of students who have successfully completed courses to monitor current certification of staff.
  • Examines and inspects equipment used in training classes (i.e., adult and infant mannequins, resuscitator, and suction machine) on a regular basis to ensure optimal working conditions. Records inspections in accordance with established procedures. Repairs broken or damaged equipment or contacts repair services in a timely fashion.
  • Maintains files and records related to assigned training programs and other records related to the department’s operations. Prepares narrative and statistical reports for appropriate supervisory personnel as appropriate.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
  • May be responsible for conducting in-service training in continuing medical education refresher courses for EMS practitioners. National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) courses which will be conducted by instructor include: Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS), Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC), EMS Safety, Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), and Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC). Additional courses which will be conducted by instructor include: EMT Module 1 (EMT National Standards) and EMT Module 2 (Hazardous Material Awareness for First Responders).

Required Criteria

  • High School Diploma or GED,
  • Certification as an ACLS or BCLS Instructor
  • Two years of applicable experience

Preferred Criteria

  • PALS certification and CME certifications, including AMLS, EPC, EMS Safety, PHTLS, TCCC, EMT Module 1, EMT Module 2 are ideal. A valid Class E Driver's License is a plus. Strong presentation skills are essential to success.
