The Business Development Manager, Global Trade Management at Thomson Reuters is a key role that requires a highly skilled and experienced professional to drive sales growth and deliver expert solutions to customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for accumulating and sharing knowledge and best practices with the broader sales team, with a focus on complex, high-value sales opportunities.

This role will involve working collaboratively with sales executives, client executives, and key account managers to drive sales growth, with a major emphasis on opening up new business and retaining existing customers. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the industry and be able to provide expert product knowledge to drive sales and renewals to close. This is a strategic and consultative sales role that requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

About the role

• Accumulates expertise and demonstrates mastery of specific product/content.
• Possess a deep understanding of the most relevant customer needs within area of specialism.
• Identifies how customer needs can be addressed through different product options and configurations to deliver the most impact.
• Shares knowledge and best practices with broader Sales team by supporting on pursuits.
• Defaults to engaging customers through virtual channels for the majority of deals.
• Acts as overlay support to drive sales towards close.
• Focuses on more complex, higher value new logo and incremental sales (upsell/cross-sell) opportunities.
• Works in a pooled team across accounts within subsegment, rather than account or territory aligned.
• Gathers and shares best practices across the broader Sales teams to support account/territory strategies.
• Grow sales in collaboration with Sales Executives, Client Executives and Key Account Managers utilizing specialist knowledge to deliver gross sales.
• Major emphasis on opening up new business, both within existing accounts and new customers.
• Assist in key retention situations as required.
• Does not deliver technical demonstrations and requirements gathering, as digital trials and demos become available.
• Provide deep product expertise to drive sales and renewals to close:
     o New logo sales
     o Existing account incremental sales
     o May not be individually quota carrying, where primarily pooled across a large number of deals

About you

You're a fit for the role of Business Development Manager, if your background includes:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a professional field sales or SaaS business development role
  • Proven experience of solution selling, driving complex sales engagements; selling a solution that spans multiple departments in a company and requires their approval
  • ERP selling experience/ experience with one of the major ERP platforms, especially in the supply chain module
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Japanese corporate market
  • Demonstrated track record of success in meeting and exceeding sales targets
  • Commercial acumen and ability to identify opportunities in white space
  • Ability to partner effectively with the wider sales team and internal stakeholders
