CASUAL POSITION

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Performs Electrocardiograms in a variety of settings, which could include outpatient, the Emergency Department, and all in-house locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:                 

  • Performs EKG services according to established procedure of the hospital.
  • Maintains equipment.
  • Will maintain sufficient inventory to efficiently operate the EKG services.
  • Will assist with the training of new employees, student interns, and employees of other departments.
  • Will promote the department by utilizing good customer service practices.
  • Performs clerical duties such as computer entry, filing, recording, and mailing and reports as needed.
  • Completes all test orders in EPIC to ensure appropriate charges are processed.
  • Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization’s overall mission.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
  • Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens. When handling blood and/or body fluids, universal precaution procedures will be followed to minimize exposure to infectious diseases. Safety policies and procedures will be followed when using chemicals.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intra-departmentally to facilitate the department’s/unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

Education / Training: 

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent.
  • Completion of EKG training, either an exclusive EKG training program or as part of other educational programs. Prior work experience that included performing EKGs may be considered as fulfillment of this requirement.

Work Experience: 

  • Six months of experience as an EKG technician, preferred.

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support required.

Other Qualifications:

  • Light typing.
  • Knowledge of normal and abnormal EKG data.
