About the Role
Our Data Governance Analyst Intern will support the development, implementation, and maintenance of data governance practices across Zayo. This role provides hands-on experience working with data management processes, helping ensure data is accurate, accessible, and used responsibly. Our intern will collaborate with business teams, data stewards, and the Chief Data Office to assist in maintaining data quality and supporting governance initiatives.
This role is ideal for an active university student interested in data management, analytics, or data governance. Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, and effective communication skills are key to success.
Responsibilities
Data Governance Support:
Assist in documenting data governance policies, standards, and procedures
Support the maintenance of data dictionaries, data catalogs, and metadata documentation
Help ensure data practices align with internal guidelines and standards
Data Quality and Integrity:
Assist in monitoring data quality across systems and reports
Help identify and document data issues and inconsistencies
Support root cause analysis efforts and track issue resolution
Collaboration and Stakeholder Support:
Work with data stewards and business teams to gather and document data requirements
Support communication between teams to ensure alignment on data-related initiatives
Participate in meetings and take notes on data governance activities
Risk and Compliance Support:
Assist in documenting data governance processes and controls
Support preparation for audits by organizing relevant documentation
Help track data-related risks and compliance activities
Reporting and Analytics:
Assist in creating basic reports and dashboards related to data quality and governance metrics
Help track key performance indicators (KPIs) and summarize findings
Support data analysis tasks as needed
Learning and Continuous Improvement:
Stay informed on data governance concepts, tools, and best practices
Provide input and ideas for improving data processes and documentation
Take initiative in learning new tools and technologies related to data
Qualifications
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related field
Basic understanding of data concepts (e.g., data quality, databases, reporting)
Familiarity with Excel, SQL, or data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is a plus
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges
Estimated base pay range for this role: $23.00-$25.00 USD/hour.
The base pay range shown is a guideline and reasonable estimate for this role. It takes into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted range based upon geographic location, work experience, skill level, certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
Additionally, this position may be eligible for certain benefits, such as health insurance and 401(k).
