The Senior Counsel, Tech and Data Regulatory, Walmart Entities, will lead and direct legal advice to clients at Sam’s Club and other business teams, domestically and internationally, and enable the business to reach its priorities and goals. The position will further manage significant legal issues related to emerging technology and provide legal advice and strategic direction to leadership in the organization.
Legal Advising & Compliance:
Provide strategic and practical advice on privacy and data protection laws, including GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, and other applicable global, federal, and state regulations.
Collaborate with the Privacy, Cybersecurity, and Compliance teams to develop and implement privacy policies, standards, and controls.
Monitor legal and regulatory developments in privacy and data protection, assess impact, and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders.
Contract & Policy Support:
Draft, review, and negotiate data processing agreements, vendor contracts, and other privacy-related documentation.
Support privacy-related aspects of commercial agreements, including terms of use, privacy policies, and marketing agreements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with Product, IT, and Marketing teams to assess and mitigate privacy risks associated with new and existing technologies and initiatives, including generative AI and data analytics tools.
Work with the Information Security team on incident response strategies and advise on privacy breach notifications.
Training & Awareness:
Provide training and guidance to business teams on privacy compliance, legal requirements, and best practices.
Risk Assessment & Audits:
Lead privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) to evaluate risks and ensure compliance.
Support internal audits and regulatory inquiries related to privacy and data security.
Qualifications:
Education: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
Experience: 5+ years of legal experience, with a focus on privacy, data protection, and technology-related matters. In-house counsel experience preferred.
Deep knowledge of privacy laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR,, CPRA, etc.) and their application in a retail or tech-focused environment.
Strong understanding of data governance and emerging technologies (e.g., generative AI).
Proven ability to manage complex projects, build cross-functional relationships, and provide pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice.

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00-$260,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
