The Apprentice assists in providing a high level of technical support for their assigned business unit. This includes understanding and documenting the business processes, reporting and analysis of data, working on projects, improving business processes using available tools, and more.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists the department he or she is assigned to with technical issues. Works on tasks as assigned by leadership. Assists their team in streamlining business processes using new or current technology. Documents business processes, reviews inefficiencies, and makes recommendations for improvement to supervisor. Learns University systems and data sets in order to accurately extract information from those systems. Adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary and professional manner. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.

ADS Apprentice

Analyze workflow issues and data integrity problems, provide recommendations on resolution and advise management accordingly.  Conducting and leading projects to accompany the transformation of your clients’ business processes through the effective collection, processing, and visualization of data.  Document and optimize business processes by researching industry’s best practices and supporting the development of solutions for current business operations.  Develop a deep understanding of core business processes and how performance is measured, and work with business and business analytics teams to discern strategic and analytical data and analytics needs and gaps.  Utilize diagnostic/predictive/prescriptive analysis to derive business insights and direct/drive action that increases revenue, decreases cost, and/or mitigates risk.  Possess a thorough understanding of the University systems and data sets, and be able to summarize and describe raw data sets for departmental use. Support validation processes to ensure data accuracy.  Analyze data to align with organizational goals and relay business impacts of findings through data-driven recommendations.  Collaborate closely with business units and provide expert input on functional business topics.  Streamline business processes by leveraging new or existing technology, including application and reporting development, while adhering to internal development and publication standards.  Provide operational support to assigned business units' systems, including technical assistance.  Provide regular updates to customers on business process improvement and new technology activities, maintaining a high level of customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Education and Experience

  • Working on a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred.

ADS Apprentice

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree or has 1 year of SQL experience. 
  • Advanced Excel and Access experience. 
  • Effective communication both verbally and in writing.  
  • Ability to intuitively reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.  
  • Excellent computer and organizational skills.  
  • Ability to obtain LU-approved driver certification, individuals must be 21 years of age or older, possess a valid driver’s license with a minimum of five (5) years of documented driving history, and maintain a clean driving record.

  • Frequently required to perform desk-based work, including computer use and data entry.

Driving Requirements

If the employee is required to travel in performing the duties and responsibilities of the position, the use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel.  Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance is required when driving in the performance of the employee’s position.
