WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE JOB:
This position will provide legal support to the Labor and Employment team within the Office of General Counsel. The Labor and Employment team consists of three attorneys and two paralegals who manage labor and employment law matters.

The position is remote, but we are asking for candidates who can support US East Coast business hours. For example, West Coast candidates would be asked to start their day around 10 am ET/7 am PT.


WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):
The paralegal’s responsibilities will include but not be limited to: 
•    Managing and tracking requests for advice from HR and labor professionals throughout the Red Cross organization; 
•    Responding to questions about organizational policy, legal requirements, and other issues related to labor and employment and compliance; 
•    Opening and maintaining litigation matters and documents on a web-based database (Thompson Reuters Legal Tracker); 
•    Handling subpoenas and other requests for employment records; 
•    Conducting substantive legal research using Westlaw and other databases, and providing written summaries of research or memoranda in support of special projects; 
•    Compiling & analyzing data regarding reductions in force; 
•    Monitoring electronic inboxes for inquiries and new matters; 
•    Crafting and implementing legal holds 
•    Supporting outside counsel by coordinating with various departments the gathering of information, materials, documents, and other evidence necessary to propound or respond to discovery and/or support motion practice. 
•    Maintaining and managing litigation dashboards and reporting using Excel, Power BI, and other data-visualization tools 
•    Providing administrative support as needed.


Scope: Individual contributor that works under limited supervision. Apply subject matter knowledge. Capacity to understand specific needs or requirements to apply skills/knowledge.

Qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.  The American Red Cross does not sponsor employment visas.


WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (required/minimum qualifications):
•    Bachelors’ degree or equivalent years of experience required. 
•    5 years of relevant previous legal experience required
•    Paralegal certificate a plus but not required 
•    Knowledge of and experience with labor and employment matters strongly preferred


Candidates must have strong skills in the following areas: 
•    organizational skills,

•    ability to express ideas clearly (orally and in writing), 
•    research skills, 
•    willingness to learn and be flexible, 
•    a customer service ethic, 
•    strong interpersonal skills, 
•    and the ability to manage and juggle multiple projects. 
•    Also required is a proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with Power BI or similar data-visualization software a plus. 

WHAT WILL GIVE YOU A COMPETITIVE EDGE (preferred qualifications): 
•    Experience in labor & employment matters
•    Power BI or similar dashboard/data analytics software used for case tracking

* Combination of candidate’s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description’s minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).

PAY INFORMATION: 
The starting annual salary range for this position is $35/ hour - $40/ hour. This role is nonexempt. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role. 

Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. **We will review specific salary information at the time of phone screening based upon your location & experience.**

This job will be posted for a minimum of five business days and extended if the applicant pool needs to be expanded.
