A Brief Overview

The Lead VDI Administrator is accountable for the end-to-end administration, stability, performance, and security of the organization's VMware Horizon virtual desktop environment. This role serves as the technical lead for daily operations, platform lifecycle management, incident/problem resolution, and cross-team coordination (Identity, Networking, Security, EUC, and Infrastructure). The role will also partner with stakeholders to assess and potentially migrate targeted use cases and user populations to Windows 365 (Desktop as a Service/DaaS), including assisting with architecture planning, pilot execution, operational model design, and production transition.


What you will do

• Lead day-to-day operations of the VMware Horizon platform, including infrastructure, images, pools, entitlements, and integrations.
• Ensure availability, performance, capacity, and resiliency through proactive monitoring, analysis, and remediation planning.
• Own gold image lifecycle management (patching, applications, optimization, profiles) with predictable, low-disruption releases.
• Drive VDI incident and problem management, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, and risk prevention.
• Implement secure access and governance controls, including MFA, conditional access, certificates, and least-privilege administration.
• Partner with Network and Security teams on protocol performance, load balancing, encryption standards, and access segmentation.
• Establish and enforce operational standards, including SOPs, runbooks, change control, and platform documentation.
• Own vendor relationships and escalations, ensuring timely support engagement and resolution accountability.
• Evaluate, pilot, and execute migration strategies from Horizon to Windows 365, aligned to user personas and business use cases.
• Drive automation, cost optimization, and team maturity while serving as senior technical escalation and executive reporting lead. Serve as senior technical escalation and mentor, providing executive-ready reporting on platform health, risks, and roadmap progress.

Qualifications

• 5+ Years administering enterprise VDI environments, including 3+ years hands-on VMware Horizon administration at scale required
• Experience supporting gold images (Windows 10/11/Server), patching cadence, application layering/packaging concepts, and profile strategy required
• Experience designing or operating Windows 365 (Cloud PC) and/or Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). preferred
• Experience with monitoring tooling (e.g., Nexthink, Tanium, Splunk, SCOM, Azure Monitor, etc.). preferred
• Strong understanding of VDI core dependencies: vSphere, AD, DNS, GPO, certificates, load balancing, firewalling, routing, and storage required
• Proven ability to lead major incidents and deliver root cause analysis with corrective/preventive actions. required
• Scripting/automation capability (preferably PowerShell) and strong documentation discipline. required
• Strong communication skills—able to translate technical topics for non-technical stakeholders and leadership required
• Knowledge of Microsoft Intune, Entra ID, Conditional Access, identity governance, and device compliance concepts. preferred
• Familiarity with Unified Access Gateway, SSO/MFA integrations, and Zero Trust access patterns. preferred
• Certifications (nice-to-have): VMware (VCP-DTM), Microsoft (MD-102, AZ-104), ITIL Foundation preferred

Compensation Range:

$107,060.00 - $159,390.00 Annual

Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
