This is what you will do:
The Associate Scientist is responsible for performing assigned tasks to support the operational scale up of non-GMP Pilot-scale manufacturing processes for Alexion’s biotherapeutic candidates. The Associate Scientist will work routinely in collaboration with other members of Pilot Plant Operations and other groups in Product Development and Clinical Supply organization.
You will be responsible for:
Support of pilot scale operations at up to 500L bioreactor scale of cell culture and corresponding downstream purification process:
Assisting in general facility and operational support, including maintenance of lab and pilot scale equipment, equipment and parts cleaning, solution making, set up and clean-up activities, and hands on support of upstream and downstream operations as needed during manufacturing runs.
Documenting results in electronic notebooks and/or paper forms
Availability during standard working hours is expected as well as occasional after hours, shift work or weekend work as may be necessary.
You will need to have:
BS degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific discipline from an accredited university, with 1 - 2 years’ experience or MS with 0–1-year experience.
Proficiency in following various laboratory and manufacturing operating and safety procedures is required.
Experience with biologics manufacturing or research with mammalian cell culture and/or protein purification.
Proficiency with basic laboratory skills (i.e.: pipetting/volumetric measurements, weighing components, pH/conductivity measurements)
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to perform tasks accurately and reproducibly.
Understands/acts on priority of assigned tasks under direct supervision to deliver tasks within established timelines.
Proficiency with MS Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Scientific Inquisitiveness: Understands background of assigned technical tasks and be a resource for others. Demonstrates ability to delve deeper into technical topics, seeks to incorporate ideas from conferences or literature into work processes.
Communication skills: routinely delivers effective technical presentations within functional group, Drafts, edits and finalizes technical documents without templates and with minimal supervision, Works collaboratively with own group to achieve shared objectives.
Technical expertise: Conducts assigned routine tasks in the scale up area with limited supervision, operational experience with Pilot Scale bioreactors, and/or chromatography skids is a plus.
Strategic ability: Regularly interacts with peers within same functional group.
Ownership: Works with supervisor and coworkers to ensure assigned tasks are completed, Understands/acts on priority of assigned tasks under direct supervision
Demonstrates ability to manage aspects of a technical project.
