Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Principal Electromechanical Engineer. This will be located in Northridge, CA.

Join a cross functional team to conceptualization, design, and develop electromechanical assemblies, components, and systems for flight vehicles and special test equipment. This role involves a significant focus on cable design, integration of COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) hardware, and the development of test hardware for production environments and customer deliverables. Candidates will validate and implement design changes utilizing CAD software and PLM.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable seeing a project from initial concept to production release with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities include 3D modeling, drafting, and completion of change documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop cable harnesses for flight hardware and special test equipment.

  • Select and integrate COTS hardware such as connectors, wires, electronics, enclosures and MIL-spec components.

  • Design test racks and fixtures for use in production and validation environments.

  • Perform detailed tolerance analyses and validate electromechanical designs utilizing engineering principles and prototyping.

  • Utilize CAD software for 3D modeling, cabling design, CCA envelopes, and drafting.

  • Create and maintain engineering drawings, change papers, and other associated documentation in compliance with ASME Y14.100, Y14.5, and Model-Based Definition (MBD).

  • Collaborate with suppliers, production, testing, electrical, systems, and quality teams to troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues.

Basic qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering AND a minimum of five (5) years Mechanical and/or Electrical Design experience using CAD software OR a Master's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering AND a minimum of three (3) years Mechanical experience using CAD software.

  • Must have an Active U.S. Government Secret Clearance.

  • Experience (1 year minimum) with at least 3 of the following items:

  • Cable harness design (PTC/Creo Cabling Application or similar software preferred)

  • Special test equipment design.

  • CCA design

  • Experience with electro-mechanical components and integration into systems.

  • Familiarity with PTC/Creo (7.0 is preferred).

  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.5-2009 standards

Preferred qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in PTC/Creo Cabling and Siemens Capital. (Routed and flat harness design)

  • Strong familiarity with MIL-spec and industry standard components for aerospace and defense applications.

  • 3-5 years designing and documenting cable harnesses, electronic enclosures, and test racks with COTS hardware.

  • Proficiency in creating envelope drawings for CCA design and development.

  • Experience with Model-Based Definition and Product Manufacturing information.

  • Experience initiating, reviewing, and/or updating design documentation and engineering drawings, engineering change orders, non-conformances, and root cause/corrective actions in the sustaining of current production.

  • Experience with detailed tolerance analyses.

  • Certification as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE)

  • Demonstrated experience with additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping.

  • Basic knowledge of Machining operations and tools (Mill, Lathe, Router, etc...)

Salary Range: $110,300.00 - $165,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
