JOB PURPOSE: Responsible for the operation and management of a building or product area. To provide leadership for direct operations necessary to manufacture and ship prime products and/or components on time, at the right variable cost and at the right quality level to customers.      

JOB DUTIES:  
Although organizations may vary, the following positions typically report to this position: Operation Manager, Group Managers, Section Managers, 

The Factory Manager position is responsible for managing factory operations that may involving any or all of the following manufacturing, assembly, machining,  packaging, painting, testing, tooling, scheduling, , quality, packaging, warehousing, shipping and receiving .  Provides direction to supervisors of these areas in a manner to ensure efficient operations.  Manages in accordance with established objectives for efficiency, cost, safety, quality, quantity, timeliness and human resources objectives.

Major accountabilities are to ensure efficient, on-schedule machining and assembly of parts, components and prime product; ensure control of indirect and direct performance, spoilage, perishable tools and rework; control overtime for economical factory operation; ensure factory operations are on schedule to meet dates for introduction of new models and engineering changes; and contribute to planning and scheduling operations for maximum efficiency.

Develop operational strategies and execution plans to reduce inventories, reduce variable cost, improve availability, improve quality and improve employee satisfaction and performance.

Ensure maximum utilization of critical assets and effective operation to meet production schedules.

Requires analytical skill and ability to understand the problems being faced in production and resolve them through innovation and involvement.  Display innovative abilities in proposing changes or improvements in production methods, processes and in the introduction of new products.

Provide guidance for future manufacturing technology implementation.

Strong involvement in the S&OP (Sales & Operations Planning) process to make sure the plant can meet its commitments.

Responsible for various corporate initiatives such as CPS Assessment, 6 Sigma, MQ12005, International Standards Organization (ISO), and Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) implementation at the operational level.

Position should have good working knowledge of labor rules and regulations.

Manage within the overall Operations budget as defined in the Annual Business Plan (ABP).The position manages a department through subordinate supervisors/managers and professionals.  

The incumbent provides direction, focus, motivation, and encouragement for subordinates.  The position is responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluation of subordinates.

Typical internal customers include employees from two or more work groups in a Division.  The position's primary customers are internal.  The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems which may not be obvious. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions.  

The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan in order to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results.  Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, Part Quality, ISO 9000 Certification, etc. The position monitors and reports on key quality measures for the measure(s) stated.

Limited travel required (Less than 5% of working time).

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:  

The position requires an engineering or manufacturing background plus familiarity with CPS process and tools, company manufacturing facilities, processes, equipment and processes.  

Knowledge of shop operations and maintenance procedures is required.

Must complete the CPS Operations/Facility Manager functional curriculum.

The position typically requires a college or university degree in engineering or equivalent experience.  

In addition, nine to fifteen years of progressively responsible job-related experience are typically required.  

Good human relations skills are required to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside the department.
