Job Title: Veterinary Surgeon (Fixed Term Contract)
Location: Cromwell Veterinary, Cambridgeshire
Hours: Part-time or full-time considered (Full-time: 4 x 9-hour days) | 1 in 4 weekends (Sat & Sun) | No OOH
Practice: Cromwell Veterinary Hospital & Branch Network
Salary: £45,000 – £65,000 FTE (DOE)
This is a fixed-term opportunity (approx. 9 months) for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join our busy, progressive hospital-led team at Cromwell Vets.
You’ll be working with a large caseload in a supportive environment where clinical standards are driven by collaboration, experience, and continuous learning. Cromwell vets has a dedicated twilight and night team in place so day clinicians benefit from strong continuity of care without the demands of routine out-of-hours work. This role offers a mix of hospital-based work at our Huntingdon site alongside branch exposure, including sole charge work at times across our local branch network.
Why join us?
The team and practice
Cromwell Vets is a large, well-established hospital in Huntingdon, supported by a network of five branch practices across the surrounding Cambridgeshire area. The hospital is fully equipped to manage a wide and complex caseload in-house, including digital radiography, advanced ultrasound suite (multiple probes including echocardiography), video-endoscopy (gastroscopy, bronchoscopy and rigid endoscopy), laparoscopy, dental radiography, and multi-parameter anaesthetic monitoring.
The clinical team is highly experienced and genuinely multidisciplinary, with multiple certificate holders and advanced practitioners across medicine, surgery, ECC, imaging, and other key disciplines. This creates a strong internal referral culture and excellent support for case discussion, development, and progression across all levels.
The caseload is busy, varied, and fast-paced, ideal for a vet who thrives in a dynamic hospital environment with strong clinical support and continuous learning at it's core. Branch work offers further exposure to sole charge practice, with the safety net of full hospital backup when required.
Huntingdon and the wider Cambridgeshire area offer excellent lifestyle balance, combining easy access to Cambridge city (around 20–30 minutes away) with more rural surroundings and market town living. The area is well connected via major road and rail links, making it accessible from Peterborough, Bedford, St Neots, and surrounding villages. Candidates often value the balance of affordable living options, green space, and quick access to both city culture and countryside walks.
