The MAP Measurement, Insights and Data Strategy (MINDS) team is part of the Sam’s Club Member & Insights Center of Excellence org that is dedicated to supporting the retail media MAP business unit. It is comprised of two key workstreams - Performance Measurement & Insights team and Media Science & Experimentation team. MAP MINDS plays a critical role in MAP’s accelerated growth by bringing the power of 1st party deterministic membership data and advanced data science and innovative measurement approaches together to offer trusted data and insights to MAP advertisers and MAP internal teams. 

What you'll do...

What will you do? 
Business Measurement & Reporting:   
  • Collaborate with leaders in Sales and other inter-dependent teams to design, develop, and propose automation and AI solutions for reporting and measurement needs.   
  • Own and develop scaled reporting solutions for Sales team needs.   
  • Manage reporting collateral, including dashboards, to facilitate teams' understanding of business health and goal achievement levels.   
     
Strategy Planning:   
  • Address ambiguous strategic questions facing the business and collaborate with leaders across MAP to build business cases for new business initiatives.   
  • Ensure smooth execution of these initiatives across diverse cross-functional partners.   
  • Develop a profound understanding of MAP’s business and how our different ads products, media channels, and sales investments align with our broader strategy.   
  • Develop various input and output metrics we will use to evaluate our progress, which will serve as the backbone of our MAP MINDS reporting process. This role will also leverage strong data science skills to develop reporting deliverables, create ad hoc analyses on business results and sales performance, provide insights used to help business planning, develop and deploy ML models and drive process improvement.   
     
Special Projects and In-Depth Analysis: 
  • Build quick automaton tools to drive quick data synthesis   
    Work with product on robust data analytical asks    
  • Act as the primary point of contact for Sales, offering insights into metric movements and trends and providing data-driven insights.   
  • Support decision-making by specifying requirements for developing analytic capabilities, platforms, pipelines, and metrics, and then use them to analyze trends and identify root causes.   
  • Lead and conduct ad hoc analyses, ranging from creating new metrics to identifying the root causes of revenue fluctuations.   
  • Operate independently as the go-to analytics expert for day-to-day business needs. 
  • This role requires strong stakeholder management, comfort with ambiguity, attention to detail, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. As a staff data scientist, you will uphold high technical standards, deliver consistently, and lead by example. 
     
What you’ll bring? 
  • 5+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or statistical analysis 
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences 
  • Advanced SQL skills for complex data extraction and analysis 
  • Design, build, and maintain high-quality dashboards and visualizations using Superset and other BI tools as needed. 
  • Experience partnering with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to design, train, test, and deploy ML models 
  • Ability to translate ambiguous business problems into clear analytical and ML roadmaps 
  • Experience conducting offline evaluations and A/B testing, causality, and communicating results to technical and non-technical stakeholders 
  • Experience mentoring junior data scientists and acting as a technical leader 
  • Strong ability to gather business requirements, propose solutions, evaluate feasibility, and assess ROI 
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a cross-functional environment 
  • Familiarity with sales processes and tools (e.g., Salesforce, quota and territory analytics) 
 
What are the qualifications? 
  • Have a MS/PhD in relevant technical degree (preferably Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering etc.) with 5+ years of relevant work experience.  
  • Strong prior experience in retail media and digital / in-store advertising  
  • Strong knowledge of Python, SQL, PySpark, Tableau, Machine Learning Libraries, Big Data processing systems in cloud environment is expected.  
  • Experience working cross-functionally product and technical teams 
  • Experience with large data sets and analytical tools e.g., Spark 
  • Sound knowledge of Ad tech and prior Retail Media working knowledge is required 
  • A track record of building ML models or delivering impactful customer-facing products as tech lead and mentoring early-career data scientists. 
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and thrive in an environment with rapid change

Bentonville, Arkansas US-09930: The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00
San Bruno, California US-08848: The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location).
