Broadridge is Growing! We are seeking The Tax Product Owner who is responsible for defining, prioritizing, and delivering tax reporting and data migration capabilities in an Agile software development environment. This role serves as the primary business representative for a strategic initiative to migrate trading, account, and tax-lot data from the client’s in-house wealth management systems to the Broadridge tax platform that supports IRS tax reporting.

The Tax Product Owner will work closely with Tax, Operations, Technology, Compliance, and vendor teams to ensure product requirements are clearly defined, business rules are accurately translated into user stories, and delivered solutions support compliant, accurate, and timely tax reporting. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of brokerage or wealth management tax reporting, securities and cost basis data, and Agile product ownership practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Ownership and Agile Delivery
  • Serve as the Product Owner for tax reporting and data migration workstreams within an Agile development environment.
  • Own and manage the product backlog for tax reporting, trading data migration, and vendor integration requirements.
  • Translate business needs, tax reporting rules, and operational requirements into clear epics, features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Prioritize backlog items based on business value, regulatory requirements, project milestones, and delivery risk.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Make timely business decisions and provide clarifications to development teams to support uninterrupted delivery.
  • Review completed work, validate outcomes against acceptance criteria, and formally accept or reject deliverables.
Tax Reporting and Data Migration Leadership
  • Lead business definition for migration of trading, account, customer, and tax-lot data from internal systems to the outsourced vendor platform used for IRS tax reporting.
  • Define requirements for source-to-target mapping, data conversion logic, business rules, and exception handling.
  • Ensure tax-sensitive data elements are accurately represented in the target solution, including:
  • Trade and settlement dates
  • Tax lots and acquisition dates
  • Cost basis and adjustments
  • Wash sales
  • Holding period classification
  • Corporate action impacts
  • Proceeds and gain/loss reporting attributes
  • Customer tax reporting data required for IRS forms
  • Partner with technical teams and vendor stakeholders to ensure data interfaces, transformations, and reporting outputs meet business expectations.

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the key liaison among Tax, Operations, Compliance, Technology, Project Management, and external vendor teams.
  • Gather and align stakeholder input across business and technical teams to define scope and resolve competing priorities.
  • Communicate product vision, delivery roadmap, sprint priorities, and business impacts to stakeholders.
  • Escalate risks, blockers, and critical decisions affecting delivery timelines or tax reporting compliance.

Qualifications

•  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.

•  8+ years of experience in tax reporting, brokerage/wealth management operations, securities data analysis, data reconciliation, or financial systems conversion/migration.

•  Experience working with trading data, tax-lot data, cost basis data, or brokerage transaction reporting.

•  Strong knowledge of securities transaction lifecycle concepts, including trades, settlements, transfers, and corporate actions.

•  Understanding of IRS tax reporting requirements, particularly Form 1099-B, cost basis reporting, and covered vs. noncovered securities.

•  Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivots, lookups, formulas, filtering, and large-data analysis.

•  Experience using SQL to query, compare, and validate data across systems.

•  Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.

•  Ability to investigate data discrepancies and perform root-cause analysis across multiple systems and data sources.

•  Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
