Job Description

The trucking industry is the backbone of the global economy. Roughly 70% of what we consume  in the U.S. is moved by trucks. Those trucks are powered by over 3.5 million drivers per year and  create over $700B in annual revenue. Trucking is a massive industry but it is a traditional industry and like many traditional industries, it is ripe for innovation.

CloudTrucks is building the operating system for trucking and is the first platform specifically designed to empower truck drivers. Our all-in-one, “business in a box” solution optimizes and automates operations and accelerates cash-flow for drivers, so they can focus on building their business.

Being an all-in-one platform, our product development teams tackle a broad range of complex challenges ranging from understanding geolocation and logistics route optimizations, to IOT and SaaS integrations, to business workflow automations, to building fintech products.

As a software engineer, you will leverage your skills and expertise to make key technical decisions and deliver products that meaningfully impact and empower the truck drivers on our platform, as well as our internal-facing teams.

Examples of projects that you may work on

  • Building features, automations and tooling to enable drivers move safely and efficiently, allowing them to make more money with us.

    • Improve and maintain our internal trucking management system that is used by CloudTrucks operations, safety and success teams to support drivers, on and off the road.

    • Support round the clock tracking of loads to keep our brokers and business partners informed, and our drivers aware of upcoming milestones and best practices.

    • Iterate and improve our existing architecture to support the business at a 10x → 100x scale, while maintaining and reducing overheads.

  • Leverage LLMs to revolutionize our approach to problem-solving, enabling us to tackle complex challenges with unprecedented efficiency and creativity, while continuously pushing the boundaries of what's possible in software development and user experience design. Eg.

    • build a document processing engine that is able to ingest unstructured or heterogenous data (e.g. PDFs, scanned images, etc) and extract structured data and insights. Leverage this capability to automate business critical workflows.

    • build AI bots / RPAs to automate end to end lifecycle of user centric features that add value to the users’ overall experience with the CloudTrucks platform. Eg. chatbots, task automatons, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Design, test, ship, and maintain solutions to problems and products.

  • Take complete ownership over projects and features. Work across a range of systems and technologies to deliver end-to-end solutions.

  • Partner with cross functional teams to ensure a complete and delightful customer experience.

  • Help set and improve our engineering processes, standards, and tooling.

What we are looking for

  • Strong technical background, including 4+ years of industry experience as a software engineer working on production systems.

  • Enthusiasm for and knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs) and their applications in software development.

  • Familiarity with LLM-based development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor AI, or Aider.

  • Experience or strong interest in leveraging LLMs for delivering features in production environments.

  • Self-motivated and comfortable operating in a dynamic environment with a strong sense of ownership.

  • Takes a user-focused approach, shipping incrementally with rapid iterations.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills. As a small engineering team, we work closely with each other and other cross functional teams across the company.

  • Experience with web technologies and system design.

Nice to haves

  • Full-stack experience.

  • Experience with our technical stack: Python, Django, PostgreSQL, Javascript, Typescript, React, Google Cloud

  • Hands-on experience with projects that have utilized LLMs for code generation, optimization, or other software engineering tasks.

  • Knowledge of prompt engineering techniques for optimizing interactions with LLMs in development workflows.

  • Ability to critically evaluate and integrate emerging AI-powered development tools into existing processes.

A bit about our culture

We value high autonomy, ownership, and delivering results - in short - whatever it takes to set our customers up for success. We encourage each other to push the envelope, execute quickly, and be resilient to failure. We encourage exploration and adoption of cutting-edge technologies, including LLMs, to drive innovation and efficiency in our development processes. We value team members who are excited about the potential of AI in software engineering and are eager to apply these tools responsibly to enhance our products and services. We also work occasional late nights or weekends to deliver an above-and-beyond customer experience, while respecting and celebrating each other's personal background, values and commitments. In return, we are well compensated, take pride in seeing outsized impact to our product, and have memorable experiences learning and growing alongside a truly exceptional set of peers.

Salary Range

$150,000 - $235,000
