POSITION SUMMARY :

Reporting to the Director of Fraud Prevention & Detection, the Lead Advisor is responsible for leading and supporting all initiatives within the fraud prevention and detection program. The primary goal is to protect the corporation from risks and incidents associated with fraud. The Lead Advisor will conduct investigations into fraudulent or unethical behavior and perform fraud risk assessments and detection audits across various Business Units in North America.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in investigations related to known or suspected instances of fraud or Ethics Line reports (occupational fraud, third party fraud). Following the Investigation Protocol, the Lead Advisor will prepare investigation plans, gather documentation, perform various investigative methods to collect evidence and document findings. Review internal processes to identify weaknesses that allowed the fraud to occur and recommend improvements. Assist the Director during interviews, write reports and memos for internal stakeholders, and prepare all supporting evidence required to substantiate findings.

  • Participate in the conduct of fraud risk assessments (FRA), fraud detection and reviews, for the different Business Units of Cogeco. Assess fraud risks, develop strategy, identify, test and recommend enhancements to internal controls aimed at preventing and detecting occurrences of fraud. Examples of mandates are: evaluation of fraud risks of the construction industry, customer management systems and sales, etc. 

  • Support all business units in the identification of their specific needs in terms of data analytics and internal controls to prevent and detect fraud. 

  • Support cross-functional teams for due diligence processes, red flag monitoring and other implemented fraud mitigation measures. 

  • Communicate with the various stakeholders of the organization in order to complete different projects and ensure required follow-up on recommendations that were issued. 

  • Support, as required, the Director in the conduct of fraud awareness training.

  • Travel might be required on an as-needed basis (approximately 10-15%) (Ontario, Quebec, USA).

  • As part of their work, employees must take all necessary measures to ensure their own health & safety, and that of their co-workers and the public in general. They must use available personal protective equipment at all times, and comply with all Health & Safety instructions, guidelines, policies and procedures issued by the Company.

  • To support Cogeco’s ultimate goal of providing excellent service to current and potential customers, incumbent must be constantly attentive and responsive to both external and internal customers’ needs and assist in the resolution of any issues or concerns in a timely and professional manner while ensuring that the solution meets the customer’s needs. 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

ACADEMIC TRAINING

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or other relevant fraud related field.

  • Professional designation of Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or other relevant designation(s) such as CFF or CIA – would be an asset.

  • Professional designation of CPA – would be an asset.
     

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the financial field, including at least 3 years specifically dedicated to fraud prevention or detection.

  • Proven experience with data analysis tools, artificial intelligence, and/or e-discovery (e.g., Tableau, Google Vault, Gemini, Notebook LM).

  • Previous experience in auditing is considered an asset.
     

SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and French (Bilingualism required). The employee will need to work with stakeholders outside of QC.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet strict deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team.

  • High level of integrity, ethics, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Creative problem solving skills. 

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail, precision, and rigor.

  • Ability to conduct relevant searches and produce data analyses that are thorough and relevant.

  • Organized and structured with excellent documentation skills. 

  • In-depth knowledge of Google Workspace and Google Cloud Platform (Sheet, Slides, Docs etc.) 

  • Knowledge of Workday ERP system is an asset.

  • In-depth knowledge of social media and other search mechanisms (LexisNexis).
