Scope of Position
The Owner’s Representative for Capital Projects will leverage interdisciplinary teams both inside and outside the enterprise to define and deliver key capital projects, along with a portion of the overall annual capital project portfolio, for the Wexner Medical Center and College of Medicine at The Ohio State University. The Owner’s Representative will also assist with problem solving and bridging between clinical leaders and the University’s medical center-focused Facilities Operations team when issues arise relating to either existing facilities or under-construction projects. Builds strong relationships, provides professional guidance, oversees capital project scopes, budgets and schedules, analyzes and presents capital portfolio summary data, provides foresight for partner departments and personnel involved in delivering and activating new spaces and facilities, leads and mentors team members, and collaborates to manage an assigned portion of the overall capital investment plan and real estate footprint of the enterprise.
Position Summary
The Owner’s Representative for Capital Projects is a leadership position on the Space and Facilities Planning team for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (WMC), reporting to WMC’s Associate Vice President of Space and Facilities Planning (SFP). The Owner’s Representative has primary responsibilities for guiding the development of significant capital projects, from conception through design, documentation, construction, fit-up, activation and go-live, to ensure WMC enterprise priorities are achieved and projects are delivered on-scope, on-brand, on-quality, on-experience, on-schedule, and on-budget while minimizing overall project-related risk and disruptions to ongoing medical center operations.
Primary collaborators include the WMC SFP Senior Planners, Interior Design Planners and signage and EGD teams, other collaborating medical center departments including strategy, finance, administrative and clinical leadership, support services, activation and executive teams, and university partners including but not limited to Planning & Real Estate (PARE), Facilities Design & Construction (FDC), Facilities Operations (FOD), Transportation and Traffic Management (TMM), CampusParc and security.
Projects may include renovations, additions and new builds ranging in size, complexity and location for any of the Wexner Medical Center affiliated entities, including Ohio State University Hospital, Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital, Harding Hospital, Dodd Rehabilitation Hospital, East Hospital, The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute, the WMC Ambulatory network and OSUP physician practices, the College of Medicine and other partners across the WMC’s 13M+ SF of clinical, teaching and research space.
The Owner’s Representative for Capital Projects requires extraordinary organization, analytical and financial skills, program management, interpersonal and communication skills, and an empowering and visible leadership style. The position may be required to interact and present to community and city government leaders as well as senior administrative and faculty physician leadership across The Ohio State University. The position is vital to planning and implementing the WMC’s strategic plan - ensuring the physical environment of the assigned portfolio of WMC care sites and facilities reflect best-in-class standards and outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in related field required. Master’s degree in business, architecture, construction management or related field preferred.
Minimum of 10 years in a senior healthcare operation and/or senior facility management role required. 12+ years crossing these focus areas strongly preferred.
Facilities planning, capital program oversight, and healthcare operations experience preferred.
Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
PMP certification and experience with LEAN principles preferred.
