The Red Hat Performance and Scale for AI Platforms (PSAP) team is looking for a highly motivated Software Engineering Intern to help lead our research into Agentic Platform and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) performance benchmarking. As AI Agents move into production, understanding how RAG performance impacts both standalone retrieval and end-to-end agentic reasoning is critical. In this role, you will help the team establish new methodologies for measuring the latency, throughput, resource utilization, and the qualitative performance of reasoning and retrieved data relevance within complex agentic workflows on OpenShift. This is an exploratory and foundational role, where you will help build the tools we use to evaluate the next generation of end-to-end agentic infrastructure.
What you will do:
Agentic & RAG Benchmarking Research: Research and identify key performance indicators (KPIs) for RAG systems and their downstream impact on agentic decision-making speed, reasoning accuracy, and overall platform throughput.
Tooling Development: Help build or adapt Python-based testing suites to automate the deployment and benchmarking of RAG components and end-to-end agentic platforms in OpenShift.
Experimental Analysis: Execute performance tests across different agentic architectures to identify bottlenecks in the retrieval-to-reasoning pipeline and evaluate how retrieval relevance and grounding influence the final output in multi-agent environments.
Collaboration: Work with PSAP engineers to integrate agentic performance metrics into our existing benchmarking dashboards and OpenShift-based automation.
Python Experience: Practical experience with Python for scripting, automation, or data manipulation.
AI Concepts (Agents & RAG): A conceptual understanding of AI Agents, Agentic Platforms, and the RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pattern.
AI Productivity & Assisted Coding: Experience in using modern AI assistants and IDEs (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Gemini) to accelerate coding, debugging, and technical research.
Infrastructure Basics: Familiarity with Linux command-line basics and a strong interest in learning about containers (Podman/Docker) and Kubernetes/OpenShift.
Analytical Mindset: Ability to approach performance problems logically and document research findings clearly for the team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Must be enrolled in an accredited university program in Israel during the whole duration of the internship and eligible to begin a full-time role in 2027 or 2028
Must be available for the internship from May 2026 till April 2027
The following are considered a plus
Knowledge of containers and OpenShift or Kubernetes and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
Previous code contributions to or participation in open source projects or code samples on GitHub.
Basic knowledge of data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation.
Knowledge of AI frameworks and libraries (e.g. OpenDataHub, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Kueue, KubeRay, KubeFlow, CodeFlare, Feast etc)
Due to the limited number of internship opportunities and the high volume of applications, we may not be able to speak with every candidate. To maximize your chances of moving forward in the process, please ensure your CV clearly outlines your education, relevant projects (link to your Github account), and extracurricular activities.
Please apply for a maximum of three internship roles that best match your interests and skills.
