SUMMARY
The Assistant Buyer can demonstrate the ability to plan and implement a business plan that improves the shopping experience, keeping us ahead of the competition, as well as staying fiscally responsible. The position delivers all daily tasks on time and accurately. Frequently partners with marketing, advertising, inventory management, logistics, data integrity, product development, sourcing, space planning and store operations in ensuring merchandising strategies are executed to achieve year-end financial goals of sales, net margin, and turnover. The Assistant Buyer will support total buyer responsibilities and take full responsibility for a Shop or Category(s). Achieve all financial metrics within a Shop and will frequently create marketing and advertising plans that drive sales.
JOB DUTIES
- Administers marketing and advertising programs. Facilitates the ad-turn in process, including preparation of samples, ad fact sheets, and input into advertising systems that support the ad creation process. Proofs all signs for accuracy. Completes ad forecasts, weekly write ups, and marketing/advertising reporting. Serves as primary contact for internet and customer service inquiries.
- Assists the Buyer with all necessary buy plans and pricing ladders to achieve sales, margin, and turnover targets for total office and area of responsibility. Responsible for populating any necessary documents for decision making.
- Primary contact for space planning team as it relates to plan-o-grams, plan-o-guides, out of line, signage, and set-up. Demonstrates ability to collaborate with space planning to improve shopping experience.
- Monitors business results to include product performance, purchase performance, and post event analysis. Provides recommendations to Buyer and category management team to improve productivity. Supports the Buyer by monitoring results of competitive shopping and pricing.
- Facilitates milestone process for all monitored activities (business planning, plan-o-grams, out of line, assortment planning, product development/sourcing, vendor management). Make decisions as required.
- Develop understanding of product development process. Utilize sourcing process to bid out products or programs to capture the best value for our customers. Work with product development team in developing new and innovative product/designs/color ways that are unique to JOANN and set us apart from the competition.
- Travels domestically and internationally as necessary to deliver quality, value, newness, and trend right products to our customers. Coordinates vendor meetings and communication. Preps Buyer for meeting and participates in session. Provides focused, action-oriented agendas for vendor meetings.
- An expert in communication with all cross functional team members. Proactively identify others needs in order to adapt content and level of detail in communications.
- Delivers all daily tasks on time and accurately. Identifies fashion trends and interpret concepts to enhance product offering or customer experience. Demonstrates understanding of how own unit’s financial metrics contributes to the overall organizations' metrics. Identifies what needs to be done and does it before being asked or required by the situation. Demonstrates a strong ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Management, or related field.
Experience Minimum: 0-2 years' experience in merchandising
Experience Preferred: 0-2 years' experience in Basic, Fashion, and Seasonal categories and/or experience in inventory management, space planning, product sourcing and/or product development.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This role requires in-person attendance 4 days a week at the Store Support Center (SSC) located in Hudson, OH. Flexibility to work remotely when requested is determined by management and business needs.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time.
- May require working on some weekends to meet desired objectives.
- Sit or stand at a workstation for extended periods while maintaining focus and productivity.
- Move around an office space and between buildings on a large campus, including reaching for files, retail product, supplies, or equipment, as well as the ability to adapt to various workstation setups.
- Work standard business hours and extended hours as needed based on task and project demands.
- Utilization of all communication styles - written, verbal, electronic options.
- Lift and carry office supplies, documents, retail product or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds as needed for tasks such as organizing or setting up workstations.
