At ABB, we help industries outrun - leaner and cleaner. Here, progress is an expectation - for you, your team, and the world. As a global market leader, we’ll give you what you need to make it happen. It won’t always be easy, growing takes grit. But at ABB, you’ll never run alone. Run what runs the world.

This role sits within ABB's Robotics business, a leading global robotics company. We're entering an exciting new chapter as we’ve announced the plan for SoftBank Group to acquire ABB Robotics. SoftBank is a globally recognized technology group and investor/operator focused on AI, robotics, and next-generation computing.  By joining us now, you’ll be part of a pioneering team shaping the future of robotics—working alongside world-class experts in a fast-moving, innovation-driven environment.

This Position reports to:

R&D Team Lead

Your Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute significantly to the development of Sevensense’s data infrastructure and core capabilities that support our robotics technology, software, and product lines. Each day, you will act as a key point of contact in Research and Development for robot‑generated data, ensuring its reliable ingestion, storage, accessibility, and use in evaluation workflows. You will also showcase your expertise by identifying, proposing, and implementing innovative solutions that improve how our teams analyze, visualize, and leverage large‑scale robotic datasets.

Work model: #LI-hybrid

This role is contributing to the Sevensense by ABB team as part of ABB Robotics in Spain and Switzerland. We are looking for a talented team member to join our Software Infrastructure Team and help build, scale, and maintain the internal data and evaluation platforms that enable our developers to build better algorithms, test faster, and deliver higher‑quality robotics systems.

  • Designing, building, and maintaining the data platform that ingests, stores, and indexes large‑scale robot datasets, including sensor streams, logs, and algorithm outputs

  • Developing services and pipelines that extract data and produce meaningful analytics, such as rendered videos, plots, summaries, and debugging artifacts

  • Building and operating infrastructure for automated evaluations, enabling developers to run algorithm tests in merge requests, nightly pipelines, and large‑scale regression suites

  • Collaborating closely with robotics algorithm developers and DevOps engineers to integrate workflows across the entire development lifecycle

  • Writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code with a focus on correctness, usability and robustness

Our teams support each other, collaborate, and never stop learning. Everyone brings something unique, and together we push ideas forward to solve real problems. Being part of our team means your work matters - because the progress we make here creates real impact out there.

Qualifications for the Role

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field

  • 3+ years of professional experience building data platforms, backend systems, or large‑scale data evaluation pipelines

  • Strong programming experience with Python (with type annotations). Rust experience or interest in learning is a plus. Typescript useful for small frontend work.

  • Experience with containerization (e.g. Docker), GitLab CI, or similar. Experience with cloud deployments is a plus.

  • Strong communication skills, proactive mindset, a high degree of autonomy and enjoyment of working with highly skilled colleagues across robotics and software disciplines

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)

What’s in it for you?

You will join a team of collaborative, highly skilled, and experienced engineers located in Sant Quirze del Valles (Barcelona) and Zurich, Switzerland. In this role, you will focus on building core data and evaluation infrastructure that empowers our R&D teams to understand robot behavior, iterate faster, and validate algorithms at scale.

You will work at the intersection of robotics, data engineering, and developer productivity, with real impact on how our autonomy stack is built, tested, and improved. This is a unique opportunity to shape the backbone of a high‑performance robotics development workflow and contribute directly to how next‑generation robotic systems are evaluated and deployed.
