Overview

Under the supervision of the LCS Manager, the Library Collection Services Assistant III performs a variety of tasks necessary for the efficient operation of the LSF. The successful incumbent must attend assigned training in workflow ergonomics and safety practices and must perform all tasks following strict safety guidelines. He/she will be required to become certified in the proper use of an order picker after job training. Work will be performed in a low temperature and low humidity environment. 

Perform all functions related to the circulation of materials shelved at LSF. Creates work orders using an independent inventory software application to retrieve and re-shelve materials requested by various patron groups on-campus. Prepares general and special collection deliveries and returns according to established procedures. Maintains the order of and ensures the special care, security, and proper user handling of special collection material. 

Drives step van to make intra-library deliveries of general collection materials to designated stops throughout the campus and pick up patron returns. 

Links items, trays and shelf barcodes to record by entering data into inventory system, following screen formats. Drives 1.5-ton step van/N-series truck for pickup and delivery of library materials between campus libraries and the LSF. Lifts totes weighing up to 70 pounds, rolls book trucks/dollies on a variety of surfaces including inclines. Operates a pallet jack and a hand truck to load and unload vehicles. 

Cleans books, archival boxes and other library materials according to specified instructions. Checks for special preservation conditions requiring special handling. Accessions items and performs other functions as directed using the LSF’s stand-alone inventory database. Following established procedures, wraps incoming items requiring additional containerization prior to shelving. 

Duplicates barcodes for incoming materials as required. Sizes and places items into trays. 

Maintains logs and records of activities as required. Performs routine maintenance on delivery vehicles and order picker, including pumping gas, checking oil, and charging & maintaining electric battery. Maintains the order and cleanliness of work area and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned and according to a schedule and work location that might rotate or change to accommodate work demands or staffing variations. May be required to assist with disaster recovery efforts. May be assigned to work at other campus locations. 


Required Skills and Abilities
1.  Demonstrated experience working successfully in a multi-task and team environment  performing rotating tasks. 

2. Demonstrated excellent customer service experience and interpersonal skills. 

3. Experience in a warehouse or other production environment and safely operating a one-ton truck and/or automated material handling equipment. 

4. Experience with computer data entry. 

5. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook. 


Preferred Skills and Abilities

Experience operating an Order-Picker. Delivery experience.  

 

Required Licenses of Certifications

Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License and safe driving record. 

 

Physical Requirements 

Ability to lift 70 pounds and work from a platform at a height of 30 feet above ground. Ability to stand for long periods of time, climb stairs, and push heavy book trucks. Ability to work in a low temperature and low humidity environment. 

Principal Responsibilities

Assists staff, faculty and students with the completion of forms. Identifies and resolves errors through contact with students and University departments. Maintains logs and records of activities. 3. Compiles statistical data and information. Establishes and maintains filing systems. 4. Uses computer terminal to input and retrieve data. Merges and manipulates filing systems. Monitors and reconciles financial data. 5. Keyboards letters, memoranda and other materials. Composes general written material. 6. Schedules and coordinates conferences, meetings, appointments, and classrooms. 7. May oversee and instruct support staff. 8. Performs clerical functions incidental to office activities. Required Education and Experience Four years of related work experience, two of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
