Head Of Electrical Compliance

Position Type: Permanent, Hybrid

Working Hours: 42.5hrs per week, Monday-Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm

 Salary: £53,000 per annum + Car Allowance of up to £4,800

About the role:

Due to an internal promotion, we have an exciting opportunity to welcome a new Head Of Electrical Compliance within Mears.

The purpose of this role is to develop and implement Electrical compliance systems/procedures on all works within the Group. You will be monitoring compliance with regard to Legislation, policy, procedures, systems and providing support to the operational teams where necessary, reporting non-compliance to Managers.

One of the key functions within this position is to instil a strong electrical compliance culture within all staff and subcontractors working on Mears contracts and to manage the electrical Compliance team to ensure consistent application of procedures during audits and KPI’s are met.

The role requires the individual to be a strong team leader, with a pro-active and positive can do attitude.  Initiative, confidence, decisiveness, enthusiasm, reliability, patience, tact, approachability, willingness to develop self and others, committed, trustworthy and have excellent time management skills. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • To ensure that all employees and sub-contractors are working in a safe manner and in compliance with the requirements of NICEIC, Internal Electrical Compliance procedures and all relevant legislation.
  • Normative documents and rules for registration.
  • To manage, advise and provide guidance of new, and changes to, statutory requirements, Company Policy and Procedures and to inform the group, and clients where required, of such changes and be an active member of the SHEQ department strategy team.
  • To monitor the implementation of statutory requirements and company procedures and advise the SHEQ Department and General Managers accordingly.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of the Electrical Compliance and where appropriate take corrective action.
  • Ensure Compliance with the requirements of other trade registration bodies and requirements of local authority building control requirements, i.e. HETAS, OFTEC F-gas etc in conjunction with the Head of Gas Compliance.
  • Oversee investigations into incidents involving areas of expertise and prepare detailed and accurate reports.
  • Be the focal point for all relevant technical queries and produce TBT and alerts as required to ensure the business is kept up to date in all aspects of legislation and best practice.
  • To assist other departments as and when required i.e. business development, business improvement, IT, Mears Learning etc.
  • To manage the relationship and be the first point of contact between Mears Group and the NICEIC ensuring that Individual branches remain registered in accordance with the NICEIC rules of enrolment.

Role Criteria:

  • City and Guilds, or equivalent in an electrical discipline
  • Good IT skills, current knowledge of compliance regimes, good practice and safe systems of work within the sector
  • Good understanding of Building Control requirements and Governing body (NICEIC) requirements
  • Experience in being an Electrical QS (Qualified Supervisor)
  • Fully Qualified in obtaining; 18th Addition, Testing & Inspection, NVQ L3 Inclusive of AM2.
  • Social Housing sector experience is not essential but deemed as highly advantageous.
  • Experience in managing a team is not essential but preferable.
