Job Title:

Job Summary:

To serve as a consultant/resource person in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients with stomas, draining or diabetic wounds, fistulae, incontinence and potential or actual tissue trauma. To provide preoperative and postoperative counseling and patient education regarding ostomy management, wound management, and other related concerns. To perform job duties in accordance with the medical center's purpose.

Education & Experience

3 years as a licensed RN .

Certifications, licenses or Registration required: 

Valid RN license. Certification from an accredited enterostomal therapy program within three (3) years of hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of ostomies, fistulas, pressure ulcers, incontinence, and wound care. Knowledge of gastrointestinal, genitourinary and integumentary systems including pathophysiology. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Ability to assess, develop, and provide patient/family and staff education.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care of patients with wound, ostomies, draining or diabetic wounds, fistulae, incontinence, and potential or actual tissue trauma.
  • Documents care consistent with hospital and legal guidelines and standards.
  • Assesses individual patient needs and goals; assesses. Develops and provides educational programs to physicians, nursing staff, students, and other healthcare professionals on ostomy/wound care management and self-care education.
  • Evaluates new and currently used products for ostomy and wound care.
  • Improves wound/ostomy patient care through participation in teams, committees, research, and/or performance improvement activities.
  • Collaborates in the efficient utilization of hospital assets and products; ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and hospital regulations and policies. Demonstrates core standards of exceptional customer service.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


    Physical and Environmental Demands
    Requires constant exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, frequent handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, constant exposure to bio-hazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional driving, frequent kneeling, constant pushing/pulling, constant reaching, occasional sitting, frequent standing, frequent twisting, and frequent walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)
