The Cost Analyst provides accurate, timely, and insightful cost analysis to support operational and financial decision‑making within a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on analyzing manufacturing and material variances, inventory exposure, and standard costing, while partnering cross‑functionally to improve cost performance, financial discipline, and overall plant efficiency.
Manufacturing and material variance analysis (30%)
Analyze manufacturing variances including labor, overhead, efficiency, absorption, and yield.
Perform detailed Material Variance analysis (PPV & MUV) by part number, supplier, and commodity.
Identify trends, anomalies, and key cost drivers, providing actionable recommendations to plant leadership.
Prepare and present monthly cost variance reports.
Inventory analysis & excess and obsolete management (20%)
Evaluate Excess & Obsolete (E&O) inventory following corporate policy and standards.
Calculate required reserves and monitor inventory health.
Partner with Supply Chain and Operations to minimize inventory exposure and mitigate risks.
Present monthly E&O analysis, including risks, opportunities, and action plans.
Month‑end close & cost accounting support (15%)
Support the month‑end close process through cost accounting provisions and inventory adjustments.
Validate cost transactions, work order variances, and inventory valuations.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of manufacturing accruals and financial records.
Material cost savings & project evaluation (15%)
Perform financial assessments of Material Cost Savings (MCS) initiatives.
Validate savings calculations and track actual results versus projections.
Partner with Procurement and Engineering to ensure the financial accuracy of cost‑saving projects.
Standard cost, BOM & budgeting support (20%)
Lead and support the annual standard cost update process, including labor, overhead, material costs, and routings.
Review and validate Bills of Materials (BOM) for accuracy and alignment with engineering changes.
Support annual budget preparation by providing cost assumptions, variance analysis, and financial insights.
Maintain cost rolls and ensure proper approval and documentation of cost changes.
About you
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
4–7 years of experience in Cost Analysis or Financial Analysis within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Strong experience with standard costing methodologies and manufacturing cost structures.
Solid understanding of manufacturing and material variance analysis.
Advanced analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
Advanced proficiency in Excel; SAP experience preferred.
Ability to translate complex cost data into clear, actionable business insights.
Strong communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
High level of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement mindset.
