Trade Compliance Senior Counsel, Americas Lead & Global Deputy — Ethics & Compliance
We are hiring a Senior Trade Compliance attorney with experience focused on trade compliance law, to serve as a subject matter expert in our Americas region. Trade Compliance Senior Counsel—Americas Lead plays an important part in promoting Accenture’s compliance with international trade control requirements and regulations in the North America countries where Accenture does business and helps our Legal team and business to understand trade and export control related risks, compliance, and program controls. This role supports business stakeholders on transactional trade compliance matters in client contracts, and trade-related reviews of the company’s services and offerings and is responsible for developing and delivering relevant trade compliance training and awareness materials, as well as tools, templates, resources, and guidance materials.
Key Responsibilities:
Reports directly and acts as deputy to the Trade Compliance - Global Legal Director. As such, must have an understanding and maintain oversight of the Trade Compliance program globally and will often support the Global Legal Director in key design, implementation and management tasks across the entire program (Leadership; Standards & Controls; Training & Communication; Auditing, Monitoring & Response; and Risk Assessments).
As the Lead for the Americas, drives the implementation and maintenance of Accenture’s trade compliance program initiatives in Americas, including:
Developing Trade Compliance strategy and policy decisions to ensure compliance with Americas Trade Compliance laws and regulations (e.g., ITAR, EAR, Sanctions, Anti-Boycott provisions).
Developing, reviewing and implementing trade policies and internal controls.
Working with senior management and outside counsel to conduct risk assessments, recommend improvements to the trade compliance program, and support the implementation of adopted recommendations.
Developing and delivering trade compliance training.
Planning and drafting trade compliance communications with internal stakeholders.
Working with internal stakeholders to build trade compliance and monitoring tools to help Accenture executives flag, escalate and mitigate trade-related risks.
Provides objective, focused, practical advice and solutions to Accenture businesses and Legal Professionals regarding compliance with trade/export laws, Accenture’s Code of Business Ethics, and Accenture’s trade compliance policies, and all other related policies.
Collaborates with Legal colleagues and the business in Americas to identify, analyze and mitigate trade related risks, and conducts localized training on trade/export law issues.
Responds to and helps manage internal audits and internal investigations related to trade/export law issues in Americas and assists Litigation & Disputes to respond to government inquires or investigations related to trade/export law issues.
Key Relationships:
Legal, including Global Services Legal, Sales & Delivery, Contracting, Geographic Compliance and Corporate Counsel.
Corporate Functions and business stakeholders.
Market Unit leadership.
Related subject matter experts (e.g., analytics, security professionals, government compliance).
Privacy professionals at client and peer companies.
Outside counsel/external law firms.
Basic Qualifications:
Juris Doctorate (or equivalent)
Authorized and licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
Minimum 12 years of experience working with international trade controls and trade sanctions/export regulatory systems around the world.
Minimum 12 years of experience developing compliance programs, including preparing policies and internal controls; developing and conducting training; responding to government investigations; and drafting and reviewing contracts.
Minimum 12 years of experience liaising directly with Regulators and advising multiple clients in multiple industries.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to interface, and develop relationships, with all levels of management and staff, and work cross-culturally.
Ability to prioritize and make decisions as well as synthesize complex legal analysis into clear recommendations.
Must have ability to effectively work with others remotely, manage a schedule with global clients, and engage in contract negotiation
Confidence and credibility in dealing with internal management and personnel at client and peer companies.
Highly motivated and proactive, with the ability to articulate company vision and policy, and to seek out areas of risk and priority.
Strong writing and negotiation skills.
Adapts nimbly to changing needs within the business.
Demonstrated command of international trade controls and trade/export regulatory systems around the world.
Experience developing compliance programs, including preparing policies and internal controls; developing and conducting training; responding to government investigations; and drafting and reviewing contracts.
Ability to prioritize and make decisions as well as synthesize complex legal analysis into clear recommendations.
Experience liaising directly with Regulators.
Experience advising multiple clients/industries possibly acquired in legal private practice.
Work Requirements:
Limited travel required as needed (usually <10%).
Must have ability to effectively work with others remotely, manage a schedule with global clients and engage in contract negotiation.
Compensation at Accenture varies depending on a wide array of factors, which may include but are not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by local law, Accenture provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York or Washington as set forth below.
