Job Description:

The Head of US Technology and Data Risk is a critical role that will oversee the management of technology, cybersecurity, data, and third-party risks, with a strong emphasis on regulatory compliance and risk governance. This role plays a key role in strengthening the bank’s risk posture and ensuring adherence to evolving regulatory requirements.

Depth & Scope:

  • Provides people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required
  • Develops, implements, and oversees the technology risk management framework to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with IT systems, applications, and infrastructure
  • Partners with technology teams to establish controls and processes that align with industry best practices and regulatory expectations
  • Provides strategic oversight of the bank’s cybersecurity risk management programs, ensuring effective controls to address emerging threats and vulnerabilities
  • Collaborates with cybersecurity teams to strengthen the bank’s incident response and threat management capabilities
  • Leads the governance of data risk, including data privacy, data quality, and data management risks
  • Ensures compliance with applicable data protection regulations, such as GDPR and CCPA, and establish robust frameworks for managing data-related risks
  • Oversees the assessment and monitoring of risks associated with third-party vendors and partners
  • Ensures effective due diligence processes and ongoing risk assessments for third-party engagements
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for regulatory examinations and audits related to technology, cybersecurity, data, and third-party risk
  • Ensures timely and accurate reporting to regulators and internal stakeholders on risk management activities
  • Builds and leads a high-performing team of risk professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability
  • Partners with business units, risk management teams, and other stakeholders to integrate technology and data risk considerations into strategic decision-making

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Risk Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
  • 12+ years of experience in technology risk, cybersecurity, data risk, or third-party risk within the financial services industry
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards (e.g., FFIEC, NIST, ISO 27001, GDPR, CCPA)
  • Proven experience engaging with regulators and managing regulatory audits or exams
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a track record of driving results in a matrixed environment
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and partner with senior executives
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving
  • In-depth understanding of risk frameworks, methodologies, and best practices
  • Expertise in regulatory compliance and risk governance
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
