When we do everything in service of our patients and caregivers, no detail gets ignored. As First Cook U, you will be responsible for preparing and delivering meals in accordance with standard recipes, production sheets, and established schedules. You will ensure the highest standards of food quality through proper tasting and monitoring, accurately adjust recipes using conversion charts, and provide assistance with room service operations as required. Additional responsibilities include performing routine cleaning tasks in alignment with assigned schedules and consistently delivering exemplary service to customers. This is also a great opportunity to get into the healthcare industry and interact with patients and caregivers.

A caregiver in this role works day/evening/night/weekend shifts from 5:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. or 10:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m with rotating weekend and holiday requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Maintain a friendly, efficient and positive customer service attitude toward customers, clients, and co-workers.

  • Respond to customer needs.

  • Conscientiously complete all cleaning assignments as outlined in the Daily Sanitation Check-out Sheet and/or as assigned by the supervisor/manager.

  • Adhere to all sanitation procedures.

  • Follow all established systems and training programs to provide a safe environment.

  • Comply with all OSHA regulations and other local, state and federal regulations.

  • Complete production sheets and temperature logs accurately.

  • Maintain a friendly, efficient, Spirit of Service attitude toward customers, clients and co-workers.

  • Prepare specified foods and deliver them to the proper location within or outside the department.

  • Prepare and garnish all food items attractively, following standardized recipes.

  • Portion and store all food items properly until the appropriate mealtime.

  • Set up and maintain assigned work area in a neat, clean and orderly manner to facilitate efficiency and ensure food safety.

  • Provide additional services to enhance customer service.

  • Clean tables, counters, various kitchen equipment and sweep and mop floors

  • Recognize and adopt activities appropriate to the specific needs of the patient/resident population and demonstrate knowledge of age-specific issues. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Ability to apply elementary math functions.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) 

  • Food service background or cook experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to push, pull/move patient carts weighing up to 350 lbs.

  • Able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.

  • Able to twist, stoop, bend and squat.

  • 45% of the position is standing

  • 45% is walking.

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.

  • Able to withstand extreme temperature changes.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
