The Opportunity:

The Recreation Therapist assesses, plans, implements and evaluates residents in regards to recreation therapy. The goal for the recreation therapist is to use recreation and leisure to improve functions and create optimal health and well-being for residents with illness or disabling conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assesses each resident to determine their needs, interests and abilities within the facility and community
• Identifies goals and treatment plans and communicates same to members of the Interdisciplinary Team, Residents and Family
• Ensures that residents are involved in appropriate recreation activities
• Directs and assists Recreation Therapy Aides with individual/group resident leisure pursuits
• Utilizes methods of documentation including charting and assessments
• Communicates information within the Recreation Therapy Department and Interdisciplinary Team Conferences regarding residents’ performance, progress and suitability in each program
• Assists in planning and coordinating of programs and resources

Qualifications:

• Completion of Bachelor Degree or diploma in Recreation Therapy from a Canadian accredited School/University
• Eligible for registration with the British Columbia Therapeutic Recreation Association
• Previous Recreation Therapy experience in a health care facility preferred; experience in gerontology an asset
• Proven experience preparing assessments and MDS
• Capable of functioning autonomously, independently and interdependently
• Excellent interpersonal skills interacting with residents, families and other staff

Wage Levelling Salary: $37.89 - $49.01 per hour

Salary placement based on qualifications and experience.
