This Leader will be responsible for Production Engineering (PE) work scope execution supporting the BDS and Argon ST portfolios. This position will be responsible for managing employees and managers performing production engineering activities.
This leader must have strong experience with production planning for rate increase within an active high-rate production system. This leader must also be experienced with implementing production process controls and continuous quality improvement initiatives. This leader must effectively establish key cross-functional relationships to define and align priorities to drive outcomes. In addition, this leader must have demonstrated performance leading through complexity and dynamic changes, proven ability to simplify objectives, be a creative strategic problem solver, and proficient in concise Boeing and customer executive communication including metrics and execution plans. The leader must also possess expertise in mediating conflicts, balancing conflicting priorities, and fostering cooperation to address intricate technical and program-related challenges.
This role will report to the SI&WS Director and Capability Leader for Production Engineering – Weapons & Intelligence, with matrix reporting structure to the Integrated Product Team(s) IPT(s) in Smithfield, PA.
Position Responsibilities:
Lead production engineering (PE) ensuring execution of SOW aligned to quality, safety, cost & delivery objectives – executing integrated organizational plans, policies and procedures and guiding the development of technical strategies to meet organizational goals with metrics in place to manage performance to plan, actions to improve, recovery plans, and communicating information at an executive level.
Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes to ensure alignment with business plans and goals and compliance with command media, processes, procedures.
Drive continuous improvement strategies embedded within the organizational culture to advance LEAN across the value stream. Proactively identify and adopt technologies and tools, aligned to BDS standards.
Show a proactive and patient personality with a willingness to listen, coach, and lead the team with clear direction.
Communicate clearly at all levels, adjusting for the audience.
Bring creative solutions and plans to solve problems, bringing engineering excellence aligned to program priorities.
Lead execution of ‘start right’ production engineering, support gate reviews, proposal reviews, business capture, and future factory activities.
Manage workforce talent ensuring teams are staffed with the skills needed. Includes Identifying skill gaps and working cross functionally to develop and deploy training, etc. to mitigate them and development of Technical Fellowships, Production Architects, and Technical Lead Engineers.
Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports. Includes establishing working relationships with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Safety, Test.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location. Expectations are to spend 90% onsite at Smithfield or Lemont Furnace, PA with the remainder of time allocated to travel as appropriate to support the business.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
This position requires an active U.S Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
10+ years of experience as an Engineering manager
Experience leading teams of over 30 people (directly or indirectly)
Experience leading a team of diverse engineering disciplines to include Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, and Test
Experience in executing DFAR projects and requirements
Experience with developing, reviewing, and managing Engineering processes for business Quality Management System required for AS 9100 certifications and experienced being audited and interviewed for AS9100
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
BS & MS degree in Electrical Engineering or other Engineering related discipline
Experience in Federal Acquisition processes, to include bid & proposal development, tech volume development, qualification test management planning and execution, and Production Readiness Reviews (PRR)
Experience working & collaborating with a cross-functional team of touch labor, engineers, and managers
Proficiency with MESci, Aurora precedence networking tool, Model Based Work Instructions (MBI) development
Experience with developmental production systems and demonstrated successful transition to meet rate production
Experience implementing process controls for error-proofing (poka-yoke, no fault forward)
Understanding of electro-mechanical assembly production, calibration, and test
Experience with constraint-based schedule development and maintenance
Ability to create an environment of inclusion, transparency, and trust, executing with strong values
Proactively and quickly makes sense of complex issues and responding effectively to complex and ambiguous situations
Strong communication skills, with ability to communicate verbally and present clearly at all levels, adjusting for the audience
Familiarity with One Boeing Production System (One-BPS)
Domain knowledge in production engineering best practices
Domain knowledge leading Model Based Engineering (MBE), Design for Assembly (DFA), Designing for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Affordability (DFA)
Demonstrated skills in Risk Management and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) efforts
Cost Account Management using Boeing processes and procedures, including Earned Value Management (EVM)
