Job Description:

General Description: Performs moderate to advanced maintenance and repair on clinical medical equipment. Responds to service calls to evaluate, diagnose, and perform repair/planned maintenance (PM) on progressively complex customer’s biomedical equipment and integrated systems, and drives customer satisfaction through Service Excellence.

Essential Responsibilities: Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position.  Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position. 

  • Cross-trains and self-trains on unfamiliar devices and develops PM procedures and test kits, as necessary. 
  • Masters usage of specialized test equipment and simulators; focuses at least 30% of worked hours on PM compliance.
  • Performs planned maintenance (PM), safety and environmental inspections, and maintains effective interdepartmental relations.
  • Develops field-specific troubleshooting skills; evaluates simple to highly complex biomedical equipment issues and implements appropriate repairs. Prioritizes repairs based on service line and acuity; completes work on first-in/first-out basis.
  • Follows and guides others as needed regarding appropriate policies, procedures, hospital protocol, and complete necessary documentation.
  • Establishes and engages in proactive daily communications with customer departments to ensure proper follow-up, leading to effective resolutions and customer satisfaction.
  • Assists high-skilled technicians on basic and more complex repairs and resolutions.
  • Supports operations in all locations.
  • Shares on-call/pager responsibility.
  • Documents all repair actions and submits reports/summaries according to schedule.
  • Ensures proper care of spares, tools and test equipment, and ensures calibration.
  • Maintains approved parts inventory.
  • Manages vendors’ service delivery processes.
  • Enhances and maintains technical knowledge of current standards, codes, and procedures regarding safe and effective use of medical equipment through formal instruction.
  • Meets or exceeds The Joint Commission, State Department of Health and Human Services, Environment Health and Safety requirements, and/or all other applicable regulatory requirements (FDA, CAP, etc.).
  • Aware of and complies with quality policies, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position.
  • Completes all planned quality and compliance training within the defined deadlines.
  • Identifies and reports all quality or compliance concerns immediately.
  • Ensures all work orders, vendor service reports, time and expense reports, PM activities, purchase orders, and other duties are documented in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensures all test equipment is tracked and 100% calibrated on time.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:  None required.

Experience: 1 or more years of professional experience required.  2 or more years of related experience servicing electronic or mechanical equipment, control systems, or performing technical quality control testing preferred.  Service school or hospital experience preferred.

Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:  None required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  • Analytical and communication skills with the ability to communicate technical issues to the customer in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Experience performing effective repair and planned maintenance on basic biomedical or electronic equipment, or similar systems.
  • Knowledge of electronic and electro-mechanical devices, and strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience interfacing with both internal and external team members as a part of a solution-based service process.
  • Change agent and process oriented.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good team relations.
  • Proficiency in completing electronic documentation using technological tools (e.g., IPad, IPhone) and familiar with standard computer programs (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
