The Technology group delivers the groups information technology functions to ensure the highest levels of customer service through excellent process excellence and technology innovation.

Enterprise Services (ES) is responsible for the world leading application of technology and operations across every aspect of CommBank, from innovative product platforms for our customers to essential tools within our business. We also use technology to drive efficient and timely processing, an essential component of great customer service.

You will be part of the Network Design, Operations and Engineering leadership team embedded within Technology Delivery Team. We provide end-to-end infrastructure services for the Bank. Starting with understanding business requirements, leveraging standard patterns and developing patterns where needed, we build highly automated systems, engaging across the technology and architecture teams to ensure IT Services integrate and meet the Groups strategic direction.

Our team is composed of engineers and technology leaders, who bring in the right mix of skills to enable this transformation. We also work very closely with our business and operations colleagues to support these services which are critical to the Australian and Global economy.
 

Impact & Contribution

Accountable for leading a team of Principal engineers, Staff, Senior and Network Engineers, this role will drive excellence in Network design activities across the Staff, Branch and ATM Connectivity methods, Perimeter Network and Core Data Centre environment.

They will oversee all Network engineering functions and be accountable for designs using repeatable patterns, with a drive towards being highly automated using “Infrastructure as Code” practices.

They will work closely with architecture disciplines and other technology teams (application, infrastructure, security & operations) to challenge and ensure solutions are well integrated cost effective and work to simplify the environments.
 

Reporting lines

  • The Network Executive Manager will report to the General Manager of Technology Delivery. 
  • They will have a team of team of 65 engineers consisting of staff and dedicated engineers & senior managers, aligned to Network Products and key businesses

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead in resolving elevated and complex network operational issues.
  • Direct provider network management strategies and contract for the company.
  • Support validation, deployment, optimization and operations of network devices & links.
  • Ensure the accurate implementation, and administration through partners.
  • Represent the organization at related external provider meetings.
  • Identify risks and work with L1, L2 and external audit teams to support reviews and mitigation activities.
  • Ensure strict adherence to compliance and regulatory requirements of a Bank, from a network perspective.
  • Ensure infrastructure technology recoverability in support of business processes.
  • Network firewall and IDS/IPS systems evaluation, design, implementation and support.
  • Perform special projects and other duties assigned by leadership.
  • Act in a strategy setting role to the business for network services.
  • Coordinate operations and strategy for all areas of responsibility.
  • Interact with partner organizations/departments to design network or system solutions for data centre infrastructure.
  • Interact with business partners to develop a strategy to implement perimeter and edge security.
  • Manage key provider relationships and is accountable for critical interface with providers and business.
  • Prepare recommendations based on monitoring results, tools analysis, and forensics.
  • Understand, develop, track, monitor and report on key program performance metrics.
  • Experience in leading automation initiatives in networking areas to optimize BAU activities.

Essential Skills

  • +18 years of industry experience in network security, cloud computing, and automation.
  • Experience in resolving elevated and complex network operational issues.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills.
  • Experience in agile methods at scale, experiment driven innovation, and a measurement culture 
  • Ability to interpret complex subjects and architectures, and recommend simple choices 
  • Risk mindset – All CBA employees are expected to proactively identify and understand, openly discuss and act on current and future risks
  • Team management skills, with exposure to managing multiple teams and different areas of the bank 
  • Experience of managing and building out teams of size 60+ including change and run
  • Work experience in leading technology and processes transformation across business units
  • Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and problem solving skills.

Mandatory Technical Skills:

  • Networking fundamentals, routing and switching expertise, network security, cloud computing, and automation.
  • Expertise in the configuration and management of networks, including MPLS, SD-WAN, VPN, Network cloud, Data centre networks, LAN, WAN, Firewalls (Cisco & Palo Alto), F5 load balancers, SFTP, Infoblox, switching and routing protocols.
  • Experience with SIP, IPSEC, DNS, systems.

  • Develop and implement standards, procedures, and processes for the squads.
  • Develop value-added solutions that meet customer business needs and share key learnings with others.
  • Negotiate provisions for new services and pricing with suppliers.

 
In addition to technical skills, soft skills such as effective communication, analytical thinking, and a commitment to continuous learning are also crucial for success in this role

Education Qualification

Bachelor’s degree/Master’s degree in Engineering in Computer Science/Information Technology
