Vicarious Surgical is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Waltham, MA. This role will be tasked with mechanical development of disposable medical devices associated with our surgical robot.

Key Responsibilities
- Participate in all phases of product development, including but not limited to system and hardware requirements definition, concept generation, detailed design, manufacturing process development, assembly, integration, verification, and validation testing
- Understand, analyze, suggest, and execute design changes to existing prototypes
- Work with internal and external resources to produce highly functional prototypes
- Use all available resources (internal machine shop, 3D printing, external suppliers, etc.) to quickly iterate and produce prototypes ultimately leading to a finished design
- Assist with optimizing part design for alternate manufacturing methods, such as injection molding
About You
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 8+ years’ experience with Bachelor’s Degree
- 6+ years’ experience with Master’s Degree
- Electromechanical and medical device design experience
- Comfortable understanding the interplay between various components of a complex, electromechanical system and collaboration with multiple functional groups required
- Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing, Design for Inspection, and various assembly techniques
- Strong understanding of part design for plastic injection molding, metal injection molding (MIM), and machining
- Good understanding of materials, post-processing, and finishes
- Ability to produce, review and understand engineering drawings, GD&T and tolerance analyses required
- Proficiency with solid modeling required, Solidworks preferred, complex surface modeling nice to have
- FEA experience, SolidWorks Simulation and COMSOL preferred
- Basic Python experience or similar
- Adaptability to adjust and support the evolving needs of the team
- Experience with single use medical device product development including biocompatibility, sterilization and packaging requirements and all relevant standards (CFR 21, part 820 design controls, IEC 60601 and the 510(k) submission process strongly desired)
- Prior experience working with laparoscopic surgical techniques is a plus
- Passion for excellence in medical device design and analysis
