The Manager, Manufacturing Sustainability, will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing comprehensive vendor emissions reduction strategies in support of The Walt Disney Company’s commitment to reduce absolute Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions. This role will be responsible to reduce vendor emissions at factories that manufacture Disney-branded products. You will engage directly with suppliers and factories to track energy use, develop best practices for decarbonization and provide playbooks for implementing energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. This role will focus on developing practices to drive, implement and monitor Disney’s vision towards improved energy efficiency and reduced GHG emissions in our supply chain.

This is a new role in the organization and will require developing and implementing decarbonization strategies, including energy efficiency and renewable energy, at factories manufacturing our Disney-branded products. This role will involve conducting energy audits at factories and working directly with vendors and factories to collect and track Scope 1 and 2 emissions data, recommend, and implement decarbonization strategies, and record and track emissions reduction efforts.

In this position, you will be responsible for planning and executing site visits to facilities manufacturing our Disney-branded product. You will be responsible for developing and implementing a site visit process, which includes creating checklists and follow-up procedures. You will be the designated field team lead and responsible for ensuring the success of program deployment, providing regional expertise, and assigning tasks.

This individual must be a self-starter, highly organized, eager to drive progress towards The Walt Disney Company’s sustainability goals, and have the ability to influence leadership and partners through change.

Responsibilities:

  • Ownership to drive, implement and monitor Disney’s vision towards improved energy efficiency and reduced GHG emissions in our supply chain.
  • Responsible for developing the tools and routines to evaluate energy efficiency improvement opportunities at the facilities manufacturing our global products.
  • Responsible for building long-term roadmaps for energy efficiency improvement.
  • Responsible for leading a field team, coordinating and conducting facility site visits.
  • Educate both internal and external stakeholders on energy efficiency and renewable energy.
  • Build relationships with facilities to foster environment of improving energy management and ensure best practices are effectively implemented.
  • Develop and enhance partnerships with experts and expert institutions with sector-relevant experience and knowledge.
  • This role is central to the international deployment of decarbonization strategies in manufacturing. It will work closely with US-based sustainability team members to develop and implement Disney’s absolute reduction of Scope 3 reduction goal.
  • Provides expert guidance to manufacturing partners on decarbonization, including renewable electricity, clean thermal energy, and energy efficiency.
  • Monitors reports trends, variances and issues, and takes appropriate action.
  • Provides regional expertise on available technologies, energy grids, and renewable energy projects and partnerships.
  • Attend sustainability conferences, meeting regularly with suppliers and factories to present innovative ideas. International travel required.
  • Communicate daily with vendors and facilities to support progress towards emissions reduction efforts.

Requirements:

  • 5-8 years’ of relevant experiences
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience in the renewable energy industry.
  • 5+ years of related work experience with managing energy efficiency programs.
  • 5+ years of experience managing a manufacturing supply chain, including engagements with vendors on sustainability, energy audits, corrective action plans, and trainings.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA), Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Energy Engineering, or equivalent degree
  • Demonstrated experience working with manufacturing operations, preferably in textiles or hardgoods.
  • Operates with a high degree of independence and accountability
  • Knowledge of energy management, energy measurement, and carbon accounting
  • Demonstrated expertise in climate and supply chain decarbonization, including prior participation in corporate decarbonization strategies and regional multi-stakeholder initiatives
  • Full professional proficiency in English.
  • Professional working proficiency in one or more regional languages (e.g., Vietnamese, Mandarin, Putonghua, Cantonese, Korean, Bahasa).
  • Experience with renewable energy procurement across a diverse and geographically distributed footprint, including specific experience with renewable energy procurement (e.g. power purchase agreements) development (e.g. community or on-site solar) and finance.
  • Understanding of thermal systems and heat transfer.
  • Ability to travel for conferences, meetings and site visits.
  • In-depth understanding of both competitive and regulated energy markets.
  • Demonstrated track record of successful strategy design, project execution, and ongoing management to deliver sustainability outcomes, engagement, and communication
  • Self-starter with entrepreneurial spirit, adept in working in ambiguity and new start-up teams
  • Highly collaborative, with ability to work across disciplines, sell in strategies, and drive to win-win solutions.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills that can be used to combine and analyze data from various sources, and generate reports and graphics to help drive decision-making.
  • Proven ability to influence and make decisions across geographies in a matrixed environment.
  • Ability to inspire, think creatively and strategically and act tactically.
  • Effective and influential communicator in written and verbal form; Ability to design compelling presentations.
