The Office of the Arts at Emerson College is seeking confident, self-motivated, and personable Shift Supervisors for part-time employment at the Cutler Majestic and Paramount Theatres in the heart of downtown Boston's Theatre District. The position requires applicants to be friendly, outgoing, accountable, and comfortable working in a fast-pace environment serving the public while leading a team.

Flexible schedule. Consistent evening and weekend availability required. 12-20 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Open and close the box offices and theatre spaces.
  • Supervise part-time Ticket Representatives (typically 1-3 at a time) during daytime and performance rush shifts.
  • Oversee and manage will-call distribution and ticket transactions, process third-party sales, and deal with patron concerns in real time by collaborating with the front-of-house usher staff, all in a fast-paced environment.
  • Complete end-of-night financial settlements.
  • Provide top-notch customer service by responding to escalated questions, concerns, or complaints from patrons in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Possess an in-depth comprehension of performances offered as well as box office policies and procedures so that you may assist staff and patrons and execute higher-level box office tasks.
  • Serve as an expert on basic tasks such as selling tickets and packages, processing donations, distributing will-call, and reconciling shift sales while being comfortable handling multiple payment forms.
  • Collaborate with full-time box office staff to increase box office efficiency and better the patron experience in our venues.
  • Train and mentor incoming and existing Ticket Representatives.

QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to perform the job effectively.

  • A high school degree or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of box office/customer service experience is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES – This may be representative but not all-inclusive of the knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job. 

  • Management experience is a plus, but not required.
  • A genuine passion for theatre and customer service, and the desire to collaborate in an inclusive team environment, are preferred.
  • Applicant should exhibit leadership, professionalism, receptiveness, accountability, and initiative.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills, cash and credit handling skills, computer and typing skills, and proven competency in Microsoft Office required.

  • Desks and chairs are higher than average due to positioning at the Box Office windows.
  • Nearly all work is executed on a computer, using both keyboard and mouse entry, and involves speaking with customers in person and over the phone.

This is an office/administrative position with limited physical demands.

  • The box office, especially at the Majestic Theatre, can be a crowded space during event shifts, and we can accommodate scheduling at more spacious venues as needed.

COMPENSATION

Compensation for this position starts at $21.00 hourly, commensurate with experience.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE

This is a part-time, temporary position with a flexible schedule of 12-20 hours per week. Consistent evening and weekend availability is required.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 10.00
