Summary of Role:

GlobalFoundries is seeking a skilled and motivated Robot Repair Technician to develop, implement, and support the electronic/mechanical repair center for Fab 8, in Malta, New York. This position is being developed to assist in productivity improvements for semiconductor equipment, which is accomplished by enabling higher equipment availability and a reduction in spending. This position is in the 300mm factory in Malta, New York. This is a normal schedule (5x2, Monday–Friday position), but will require flexibility across all shifts to obtain the results the fabricator requires.

A successful Fab 8 Robot Repair Technician is self-motivated and must work effectively in a team or individual situations; demonstrates flexibility regarding assignments, overtime, and work area.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, rebuild, and refurbishment of robotic systems, including:

    • Wafer handling robots
    • Atmospheric and vacuum robots
    • End effectors, arms, motors, encoders, and gearboxes
    • Robot controllers, power supplies, and safety circuits
  • Provide bench-level electronic and mechanical repair of robot-related components, including:

    • PCB assemblies and controller boards
    • Servo drives and motor assemblies
    • Sensors, cabling, and interconnects
  • Support the development and execution of standard work practices for robot troubleshooting, repair, and refurbishment:

    • Create job breakdown sheets, repair documentation, and troubleshooting guides
    • Ensure training plans are developed and executed for technicians and team members
  • Develop and maintain robot repair pipelines to reduce external repair spend and improve tool availability:

    • Identify high-failure robot components and drive in-house repair solutions
    • Partner with equipment modules to identify high-leverage robot reliability opportunities
  • Provide on-tool support for critical robot-related tool-down events, delivering high-quality, efficient repairs to restore equipment operation quickly and safely

  • Collaborate with manufacturing, equipment engineering, and global teams to:

    • Improve robot reliability and performance
    • Support productivity, cost reduction, and availability goals
    • Share best practices across the fab and GlobalFoundries network

Other Responsibilities:

Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education
    Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Robotics, Military Equivalent, Trade Equivalent, or equivalent hands-on experience

  • Experience
    Minimum of 3 years of experience in one or more of the following:

    • Industrial robot troubleshooting and repair
    • Semiconductor equipment maintenance
    • Automation, robotics, or mechatronics systems
  • Travel
    Up to 10%

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a tightly coupled, cross-functional team

  • Language Fluency
    Fluent in English (written and verbal)

  • Physical Capacity Demands

    • Ability to work in a semiconductor cleanroom environment
    • Ability to wear all required cleanroom protective clothing and equipment
    • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds; bending, twisting, and standing for extended periods

Expected Salary Range

$58,400.00 - $110,300.00
