Intrinsic is Alphabet’s bet aiming to reimagine the potential of industrial robotics. Our team believes that advances in AI, perception and simulation will redefine what’s possible for industrial robotics in the near future – with software and data at the core.

Our mission is to make industrial robotics intelligent, accessible, and usable for millions more businesses, entrepreneurs, and developers. We are a dynamic team of engineers, roboticists, designers, and technologists who are passionate about unlocking the creative and economic potential of industrial robotics.

Role

The Release Engineering & Quality Assurance team is responsible for delivering releases of Intrinsic’s software platform at high velocity without sacrificing trust in the quality of each release. As a Software Engineer Intern on this team, your job will be to strengthen Intrinsic’s platform backwards compatibility through different testing strategies. The goal will be to enhance the platform's resilience to updates by helping implement and rigorously testing API versioning. This involves establishing version skew testing, which will allow users to continue using legacy versions of the platform without disruption while ensuring compatibility with newer updates. You will play a key role in ensuring smooth transitions during updates and maximizing platform stability.

How your work moves the mission forward

  • Contribute towards the strengthening of Intrinsic’s platform Flowstate
  • Collaborate with a team of experienced professionals in modern software development and testing practices
  • Help implement and test the API versioning for the platform
  • Create and run scenarios where different parts of the system run on different versions
  • Maximize platform stability even with ongoing updates and changes

Skills you will need to be successful

  • Be in the late stage of a 4-year degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Programming experience with Linux shell scripting, Python or Go
  • Automated testing proficiency
  • Familiarity with:
    • Protocol Buffers
    • Cypress.io, Beautiful Soup, or any other browser automation and scraping tool.
    • Software build systems such as Bazel or CMake is a plus
