Summary

The Analyst Data Governance plays an essential role for the advancement Canada Life’s data strategy and maintenance of existing Data Governance Practices. This role provides the opportunity to balance enablement of the business with the governance of data assets to ensure the trust and protection of data.

The successful candidate will join a skilled team of like-minded colleagues who are naturally curious, collaborative and strive to make sense of our data, protect it and work to enable the business to advance their data roadmaps. This role focuses on developing and sustaining governance policies, standards, and processes to ensure data is accurate, consistent, well-defined, and compliant with business and regulatory requirements.

Essential Function

  • Support the development, maintenance, and enhancement of the data guidelines, processes, and practices.
  • Support the implementation and adoption of data governance across the enterprise
  • Work with technology and business users to ensure our data is understood and reflected in our Data Inventory to enable people to find what they need when they need it.
  • Support requirement definition and analysis as we build out our Data Governance Platform, connecting people to the data they need.
  • Identify opportunities to improve effectiveness of the data governance organization with focus on operational efficiency and collaboration
  • Provide front line support to our data community and translate complex topics into simple and effective statements that have impact
  • Support strategic decisions, issues, risks, and milestones related to data initiatives
  • Support and assist in Data Governance initiatives and programs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Information/Data Science, Data Management, or Computer Science and/or Engineering
  • 1-4 years of applied data governance experience
  • Strong organizational Skills
  • Expert in Microsoft products (PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Agile, practical, customer service-oriented mindset (doesn’t over complicate processes)
  • Passionately curious and excited to learn new things
  • Ability to work in a fast paced highly focused team
  • Experience in financial services and insurance is an asset
  • Working knowledge of data governance and management technology an asset (e.g. Collibra, Microsoft Purview, Informatica)
  • Self-starter, creative, and willingness to adjust and pivot depending on the priorities
  • Ability to create any of the following: framework, policies, standards, procedures, templates, etc.
  • Ability to change mindset and drive change to gain acceptance and adoption from business units and stakeholders, including senior executives and internal departments.
