Job Purpose:

Commissioned Security Officers provide for the security of patients, visitors, staff and property at Methodist Health System facilities. Officers serve as a visible deterrent to criminal activity, and may serve in both static and roving posts in and around the assigned facility. Officers identify security-related issues and recommend actions to address them. Additional duties include documenting observations and activities in well-written reports, using proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. Security officers assist staff with combative or aggressive patients, and use appropriate de-escalation techniques to stabilize volatile incidents and protect the public. Officers must be capable of using lawful and reasonable force, when necessary, to defend themselves and others. Successful officers must be able to multi-task and respond promptly and efficiently to calls for service and to address incidents that require security intervention. Security officers also respond to assist peace officers and other security personnel, when needed. Officers shall be capable of skillfully operating metal detector equipment, and in restricting the unauthorized entry of weapons or persons into secured areas of the facility.

Education:   

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Licenses and/or Certifications (Required and Preferred):

Texas Class C driver’s license and insurable prior to hire; Texas Private Security Board Level II certification required upon hiring; Texas Private Security Board Level III (Commissioned, Armed) Security Officer required within 60 days of hire; CPR certification within 60 days; Taser certification within 60 days. Officers must be able to maintain required certifications on an annual basis. Must be able to successfully complete a thorough psychological evaluation.

Related Work Experience and Other Skills:

Security-related work experience is preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Must be physically capable of standing and walking for long periods. Must be physically capable of using lawful and appropriate physical skills and abilities to defend themselves and others from unlawful aggression or resistance.
