The Senior Director, Marketplace leads the strategic planning and execution of marketplace growth initiatives, including business development, key account management, seller onboarding, and overall sales performance. The position drives top‑line growth while supporting high‑impact partnerships that enhance marketplace expansion and the customer and seller experience.
This role collaborates with internal and external partners to align initiatives with business priorities, uses data‑driven insights to influence decisions, and fosters a collaborative team environment. The role also supports capability development through coaching, recruitment, and targeted talent initiatives.
Additionally, helps shape long‑term marketplace strategy, evaluates business cases, drives process improvements, and leverages technology to improve operational performance. The role monitors industry trends, identifies emerging opportunities, and supports strategic initiatives that strengthen competitiveness.
The Senior Director, Marketplace will uphold company standards of integrity and ethics, promotes continuous learning, and contributes to community outreach. The role also supports supplier relationship optimization and market penetration planning to achieve business goals. It further focuses on optimizing supplier relationships, strengthening market penetration plans, and supporting inventory management practices to meet business goals and improve marketplace experience.
This role also leads strategic, high‑stakes partnerships, focusing on driving revenue growth, negotiating complex contracts, and improving seller/customer experience. They manage large portfolios, analyze trends, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to align with Walmart Canada's principles.
Key Responsibilities and Skills:
Strategic Planning: Developing long‑term account plans and driving adoption of Walmart Marketplace.
Relationship Management: Acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders at key partner accounts.
Analytical Rigor: Using data to identify opportunities, optimize performance, and manage P&Ls.
Negotiation & Leadership: Managing complex contract negotiations and leading cross‑functional teams across marketing, product, and operations.
Ownership: Navigating high ambiguity and complexity with a strong bias for action.
Qualifications:
Minimum 10+ years experience in a combination of E-Commerce, Retail, or Marketplace
MBA would be considered an asset
Experience leading a team of subject matter experts.
Strong executive leadership experience.
Solid analytical and communication skills.
