Purpose

The LAITS Classroom Support Student Technology Assistant (STA) is responsible for supporting and maintaining classroom technology across campus. STAs will work collaboratively with other students and full-time technicians to provide help desk support for the learning technology in classrooms and other spaces on campus. STAs can expect to learn about the design, installation, and support of Classroom audio/video technology. This introductory position requires some morning shifts, frequent walking, and a positive customer service attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct campus-wide classroom technology checks from 6:00–8:00 a.m. or 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. to ensure functionality ahead of scheduled classes.

  • Staff the Classroom Support Help Desk, providing phone and in-person support for Faculty/Staff experiencing classroom technology issues.

  • Dispatch to classrooms in response to active technology support requests.

  • Create support tickets for classroom technology issues and user-reported problems.

  • Transporting equipment, tools, or other supplies to various buildings on-campus.

  • Assist Classroom Support Technicians with various projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Be a current undergraduate or graduate student at UT Enrolled in/completed 6 hours of course work in the spring 2026 semester.

  • Conduct campus-wide classroom technology checks from 6:00 – 8:00 a.m., at least 2-3 days out of Monday – Friday.

  • Strong attention to detail and organization.

  • Demonstrate basic proficiency with both Mac and PC operating systems

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Punctual attendance

  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment

  • Ability to provide good customer service to faculty, staff, and students.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Availability to work 6:00AM – 8:00AM for Morning Classroom checks.

  • Familiarity with AV systems and components

  • Prior experience with customer service and/or technical troubleshooting

  • Familiarity with online video conferencing platforms such as Zoom and Teams.

Salary Range

$15.00 Per Hour

Working Conditions

Environmental Demands: 

  • May work around standard office conditions.

  • May work in shared work spaces with frequent interruptions.

  • Walking between various buildings on UT Main Campus.

Work Shift

  • Morning Classroom checks 6:00AM – 8:00AM

  • Classroom Support Helpdesk is open from 7:00AM – 6:00PM (*Note: You will be scheduled between this time frame depending on your availability.
