The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Credit Risk Management Co-op Student/Intern for the Winter and/or Summer (January to May and/or August 2025) work terms to support the Investment Strategy & Risk team. WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

The co-op will report to the Senior Analyst, Credit Risk Management and will work closely with other members of the Credit Risk team.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Develop working knowledge of BCI’s risk rating methodologies to apply to fundamental credit risk analysis for private investments

  • Perform preliminary credit analysis and recommend a credit rating; analyze financial statements, conduct peer analysis, perform industry research, and prepare supporting schedules

  • Write commentary for risk rating reports

  • Assist in developing and preparing credit risk dashboards and presentations

  • Support credit surveillance of BCI’s private investment portfolios, including gathering and summarizing news from various sources and monitoring credit spreads

  • Support process improvement initiatives

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • A passion for debt capital markets and fundamental credit analysis

  • Knowledge of financial statements analysis through coursework or relevant work experience

  • An ability to prepare clear and concise written reports

  • An ability to independently gather information and apply judgment to arrive at a conclusion

  • High accuracy and attention to detail while maintaining deadlines

  • Advanced Excel skills

  • Familiarity with S&P Capital IQ, Bloomberg and some experience working with SQL databases will be considered an asset

  • Competitive pay: Mid / Back Office: $2,260.00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary.

  • Spend your off hours exploring beautiful Victoria and Vancouver Island

  • Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location

  • All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office with the option to work one day per week from home. Please note, some positions are not eligible for hybrid work.
